Remarks

There is a lot of academic pressure at IITs, as you study with some of most bright minds of the country, there is a huge pressure to cope with them which leads many students to depression and unfortunately suicide! Every year suicides happen in IITs across India. Recently 3 suicides have occur in IITD and IITM last week. To tackle this issue a 'Wellness Center' works inside the campus to led students deal with depression and other issues.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

As I am a freshman, I think the first year curriculum at every IIT, which makes everyone to study some common subjects is quite good. which helps students who want to change their branch after 1st semester, while bad for some as we are forced to study some irrelevant subjects with respect to our branch, those subjects include psychology, E.V.S.etc

Placement Experience

4.5

IITs are the prestigious institutes of our country, they are the colleges with highest placements.Their is a huge scope for students of all department/branch to join various non-core internships and jobs. The average CTC for CSE branch in IITR is around 30LPA, followed by ECE, MSM and Electrical and many more. Besides their are various clubs to support startups.

College Events

3

The major events organized by IIT-Roorkee are: 1. Thomso - cultural fest of IITR 2. Cognizance - Teechnical fest of IITR 3. Sangram - sport fest 4. Rianzo - Alumni fest Apart from the above mentioned events IITrR also hosts various Inter IIT events like Inter IIT cultural fest (Organized in 2018), Inter IIT Technical fest (Organized in 2019). Besides various cells af IITR like NSS,NCC,cultural magzines organize their events inside and outside the campus.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees at IITs are quite expensive for General and OBC candidates, the fee structure for 1st year General/OBC B.tech is 1,41,000/- per semester. while for SC/ST candidates it is around 41,000/- per semester. (100% fee waiver is provided for SC/ST candidates)

Fees and Financial Aid

Every student with family income less then 5LPA, are provided with 1/3rd tution fee wavier. Institute provides Rs.25000/- per month stipend to students with AIR less than 250 in JEE Advanced. Apart from these various alumni scholarships are provided to meritorious students of different departments.

Campus Life

4.5

IITs are funded by Indian government and hence are well developed in terms of labs for research. Every students has to join among National Sports Organization (NSO), National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Cops (NCC). IITR has a number of student groups like MDG (Mobile development Group), SDS labs, MaRS (Robotics group), Geek gazate (Technical magazine), Kshitij ( Cultural magazine), SPICMACAY (IITR chapter) and many more.

Hostel Facilities

3

IITR constitutes of 15 hostels : 13 Boys hostels and 2 Girls hostel. Hostel here at IITs are quite old schooled but are best in terms of facilities. Every hostel constitutes of blocks namely block A,B,C,. All the first year boys are made to stay at 'Rajendra Bhawan' and girls at 'Sarojini Bhawan'. Every block at Rajendra bhawan is attached with a lawn. Every hostel has its own mess, gym and badminton court.

Alumni/Alumna

Yep, IITR has a vary strong alumni netwrok. This alumni group has even started organizing fest inside the campus. And seniors here are referred as 'Sir' and 'Mam', they are extremely helpful in guiding us with any difficulties in academics, personal life, relationships, etc.

Admission

I cleared Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Adv), 2019 to get admission in IITR. For Admission in IITs across India, one has to qualify two examinations. JEE mains followed by JEE advanced. Only top 1.25 lakhs students out of 11-12 lakhs are allowed to appear for JEE Advanced.

Faculty

3.5

Till now, the faculty whom I met here are like average, some are quite good while others being moderate or bad at teaching. Faculties are only concerned with students attendance rather then actual understanding of concepts.

Students become eligible for placements in the 7th sem. Recently, Visa visited our college but didn’t make any offers. The highest package in 2024 was 84 LPA, while the average is around 4 LPA. Nearly 80% of students get placed across different companies. After my degree, I plan to build strong tech skills and aim for a good software developer role.

Godrej, Infosys and likewise tech and non-technical companies which have decided to have some AI engineers in their ranks are coming to our college. Also since our college don't have such big strength like the private universities have and therefore placements final figures may be small but in all, our percentage of placements are better and higher than those of the private universities.

Placement Experience:

Campus placement are quite bad as only a few companies come to our college for placement drive . Students becomes eligible for campus placement from the 3rd year onwards . Companies visited like TCS , HCL and some other not much popular companies visited but this year placement is very low . Our college also fake advertising about the placement they advertise the interships also as placements. 10 to 20 percent in BTech CSE are getting only Placement. I don't know what I will do after getting degree but currently I am doing a side by side diploma from IIT Roorkee to get some extra knowledge and skill improvement for better placements.

Oracle, Microsoft, DeShaw and almost every company which needs IT services have looked upon GEU because we are trained that way. This is the reason our median has gone up and this year was a breakout year for placements for GEU as over 15-20 students were hired for packages of over 40 LPA.
