Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum being that if A P J Abdul Kalam Kerala Technical University is said to be a major improvement on the previous M G University. It's a not so bad attempt at IIT. I feel that the syllabus has enough of contents, they have excluded unnecessary things like that of CUSAT. But they could have included latest tech trends like crypto currency. They have recently updated the curriculum to give more weightage for internal exams and attendance. A major flaw is the errors in exam evaluation. KTU owes people a lot of money for re-evaluation. A student scores marks for a course (subject) out of 150. Of which 100 is from internals, rest from the University exam at the end of each semester. Of the internals, 10 marks for attendance, 10 for assignment, 40 each for 2 internal exams.
Placement Experience
The placements for CSE department is decent, rest especially mechanical, is a different story. The average package for CS is ?3.5 lacks per annum. Most openings being from Infosys, some from TCS. Recently a company name SOTI has started recruiting.
College Events
Onam - the harvest fest of Kerala. Celebrated by dressing in special Onam attire, playing classic games like tug of war, Uri adi(Pinata), etc. Igniz - National level techno cultural event conducted biennial. Last time there was a DJ party and many displays like laser tag. Ascendio - Annual tech test. It has got only technical displays, no other art displays.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For students from merit category, it's around 2 lakhs. 85K for the 1st two years each, 10K each for the next 2 years. For students from management category, I think it's around 1 lakh+ for each year.
Fees and Financial Aid
In the beginning of the course I did hear something about the loan facility. But I didn't need so, I didn't enquire about the details.Students with outstanding performance, i.e, 9+ CGPA are given semesters for free.
Campus Life
Labs are good, there's no shortage of equipment. Instructors are helpful. Extracurricular activities are weak point. Though there's a club, the college management focuses more on academics. Sports is a strength for my college. They win most games that participate in.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is not as great as in other colleges. All they did was that, a single guy came and said something about placements.Senior students mind their business, in my view as a day scholar. There's not much of ragging as the rules are strict.
Admission
I wrote the Kerala Engineering and Medical entrance exam, for which school marks are also considered. Then on the basis of my rank for it, I got admission, no interview was there. I got admission in the 3rd phase of counseling.
Faculty
I think that the teachers are pretty good. They give all the required notes as lecture notes, photo copies, soft copies, PDF etc. As it is a private college, teachers are supposed to do their job well.Time to time, they collect feedback about the teaching.I feel that my department's HOD is like one of the best teachers I have seen. He said "I don't see any one differently on the basis of academics".
