Brief about SMIT

MERITS: - healthy work environment - very less pollution -health center within college DEMERITS: -the college needs more experienced teachers -the schedule must become less hectic -too isolated -very less number of nearby places for hanging out

Course Curriculum : -First year comprises of no department specific course -Similar to what other technical colleges teach -Additional subjects related to law , constitution of Indian etc. till 4th semester -Elective subjects from 4th semester -No supplementary courses for fields like machine learning , etc Exam structure for each semester: INTERNAL(50 MARKS) - quiz 1 (5 marks) -sessional 1 (50 mks converted to 15) - quiz 2 (5 marks) -sessional 2 (50 mks converted to 15) -Assignment (5 marks) -Attendance (5 marks: varies from 1-5 as per attendance percentage) EXTERNAL (50 MARKS) -semester exam(100 marks converted to 50) INTERNAL + EXTERNAL =100

Placement is of a mediocre level. Since it's an isolated place , many companies don't even come for campus hiring. Still, companies like, Microsoft , Dell, Amazon etc do come for the placements. Summer industrial training is provided by the college at an affordable fee of about 2500- 3000. The teachers usually come from Kolkata. My experience was not too good. I did the training in app development. It was a 15-day (4hrs each day) training which didn't seem enough for the course.

The main college event is Kaalrav which is claimed to be the biggest fest in North Eastern India. This takes place during the 1st or 2nd week of March. Apart from this main fest , all the departments have their own departmental fests. All the fests are distributed throughout the year.

The fee structure is quite expensive and it increases every year. Tuition fee - Moderate ; Laptops were provided only till the 2017 batch; Hostel fee - High; WiFi in hostels ; (moderate speed ) All maintenance work charges are cut from the security money ( extra fees deposited; whatever is left , is returned at the end) Mess fee - High; Very oily food ; No deduction whether the student eats or not

Student loans are provided to all those who wish to. The entire fee of one year (2 semesters) is divided into 2 halves to be paid each semester along with interest whose rate keeps fluctuating. Scholarship is given to students who score above 90%(30% scholarship) and in between 80-90% (10% scholarship) including Physics , Chemistry and Maths in 12th grade.

LABS - each semester has three labs; All the labs have at least 2 teachers assigned along with 2 assistants; Good level of guidance and scrutiny; CLUBS - for each activity their are full functioning clubs ; Opportunity to perform in college as well as outside college , if any requests from other institutes ; New clubs can be formed after being sanctioned, anytime ;

8/10 Continuous electricity and water supply ; Low WiFi speed sometimes ; Room cleaning , twice a week; No laundry; Dirty tap water during heavy rain; Scrutinizing done by wardens; Cupboards provided; Mirror provided; Attached bathroom with each room;

There's an entire alumni association in the college. This functions on a great level. Alumni meets are held at regular intervals and at different venues. The club is under experienced 3rd year students who have enough contact with the seniors.

Some of them are very learned while some have no or little knowledge of their subject. Only a few teachers have a complete command on any specific course. Some of the teachers do give out wrong information when they are unaware of the solution. However, all the teachers are approachable and helpful.
