Review of IIT ISM

IIT Dhanbad shows great potential and will emerge as top college in India in coming years. The senior Junior relationship is great and solves many problems of college life. Although currently it is still in development phase and a lot of facilities need to be improved.

My course has a good curriculum. I covers most important subjects of core electrical and one can select one minor course on any desired subject. The course is based on Credit system. So every subject is weighted according to it's lecture hours. We have a mid semester exam and a end semester exam. Mid sem covers 30% and end sem covers 60% while 10% is given by professors.

Lots of companies come for campus placements and our college also provide campus internships. In third year one gets a chance to sit for internships. I am not eligible right now. But seniors have got good internship experience both in core and non core areas and stipend is also good. Companies also give Pre placement offer to many students.

There are many events in cultural technical and sports wise. We have Khanan the annual Geo mining fest. Concetto the technical fest. Basant the alumini meet. Hackfest the hackathon organised by Cse society. Srijan the culture fest. Parakram the sports event. Inter hostel sports. Pratibimb the Inter departmental competitions. And many other departmental events.

Fee structure is different for different caste categories. A General category students needs to pay about 3 lakh per annum. But there are many scholarships for needy or low income families. One can also get a loan pretty easily.

Mean cum merit (MCM) is a good scholarship. One can apply for it if he has a GPA above 8 and family income less than 6 lpa. But the number if students are fixed so there is good competition for this also.

There are a lot of different clubs to find your interest. Ex. Robotics club, dance, music , literature, coding, dramitics, film making club etc. There are also good facilities for sports like swimming pool, basketball ball court, tennis court, football, cricket grounds etc.

Hostel is good and facilities are also good but we need to share a small room with a room mate. There are canteens near hostel which are open till 2 pm. And shops to get daily need items. New hostels are still in construction. Girls hostel is far better than the boys hostel.

ISM has a large alumni base and seniors are always helpful. Alumunus are in good places and provide funds for organising fests and clubs. Also in basant the alumini meet, alumni from 50 years passed out come to re-live their moments.

1) First got marks above cutoff marks in JEE mains. 2) Got a good rank in JEE advance. 3) Registered in JosAA councilling. 4) Filled choice list and got a seat according to my rank. 5) Went for verification to Nearest IIT. 6) Paid seat acceptance fee. 7) Came to my college for completing admission process.

Most of faculties are experienced and aged. Mostly professors are interested in teaching for knowledge and not only for exams. One may also do research work under professors if he talks to professors.
