IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering generally offers a strong ROI with outstanding placement opportunities and diverse internships, making it a solid investment despite the fees that can reach 2.5 lakhs per year. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering is equally prestigious but might not provide the same breadth of industry connections and internship offers as IIT Delhi. While both colleges have excellent curriculums and campus life, IIT Delhi edges ahead in terms of financial returns and job prospects. I'd recommend IIT Delhi if you're looking for the best value for your money and future career opportunities, while IIT Kharagpur could be a good fit if you're specifically interested in electronics and prefer its unique offerings.

IIT Delhi for B.Tech Mechanical Engineering offers outstanding internship opportunities with companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon, which often lead to high-paying placements with around 85% of students getting offers. The curriculum is comprehensive and relevant, ensuring students are well-prepared for the industry. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering is also strong, but it doesn't seem to match the same level of internship diversity and placement statistics as IIT Delhi. If you're aiming for a more lucrative and varied career path, IIT Delhi would be the better choice; however, if you have a strong interest in electronics and communication, IIT Kharagpur might still be a solid option, particularly if you prefer its unique offerings.

Congratulations..!

You can consider the following parameters while making your decision:

  • Alumni network of the institute (Most important).
  • Curriculum of the branch you are opting for.
  • Infrastructure.
  • Co-curricular activities. IITs have well-structured gymkhanas for this purpose.
  • Campus life.

Placement stats shouldn’t play a major role in your decision because abundant opportunities are available at IITs. It ultimately depends on your hard work in developing the required skills to seize them.

Both institutions are extremely reputed and provide equal opportunities and exposure. EEE/ECE are considered circuital branches, giving you an upper hand in placements. Many leading software companies primarily recruit from branches like CSE, EEE, ECE, and MnC.

With your rank, you can also consider MnC. CSE/MnC at any of the older institutes will offer you equal opportunities. Companies such as GS, Microsoft, and Oracle visit every IIT campus and select students with similar CTC packages.

MnC is an excellent branch. You can definitely pursue a career in software development and will have an advantage in the field of data science (the hot topic right now). Pursuing a 5-year course is not a big deal!

Hey man, congrats on getting such a rank! Here’s my take:

  • The average package for Mechanical Engineering is around 9–10 lakhs. If you have a specific interest in how machines work, how cars are made, etc., then IIT Delhi is the way to go.
  • The average package for ECE is generally higher than that of Mechanical. If you're interested in how circuits function, communication signals, etc., you should definitely choose ECE.

When comparing the IITs, both will offer you top-notch facilities. IIT Roorkee has a stunning natural environment. Ultimately, it comes down to your personal judgment.

All the best!

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering offers a vibrant campus life with extensive clubs and organizations, a comprehensive curriculum, and strong placement opportunities, with big names like Google and Amazon recruiting regularly. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering is known for its robust faculty and research facilities, but there's less detailed info about its campus life and placements. Personally, I would lean towards IIT Delhi for the overall dynamic student experience and better internship options, especially if you're looking to get into tech giants or pursue higher studies abroad. However, if you're super passionate about electronics and research, IIT Kharagpur could be a great fit too—just make sure to consider what aligns best with your career goals!
