Should I go for B.Tech Computer Science Engineering in IIT Delhi or B.Tech Civil Engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering is a strong choice if you're looking for better placements and career outcomes. The tech industry is booming, and IIT Delhi has connections with top companies like Amazon and Google, leading to lucrative internships and job offers. While IIT Kharagpur's Civil Engineering program is solid, the growing demand for tech skills makes IIT Delhi's prospects brighter, especially with its well-structured curriculum and faculty support. If you’re passionate about tech and want to maximize your job potential, go for IIT Delhi. However, if you have a strong interest in civil engineering and want to explore that field, IIT Kharagpur remains a reputable option.

IIT Delhi is likely a better choice than IIT KGP for Computer Science! This isn't just because it's my institute, but for several reasons:

• We have some of the best professors in the country.
• The facilities here are top-notch.
• There are great tie-ups to support startups and projects.
• Many companies that don't visit KGP for placements come to IIT Delhi!

So, if you're leaning towards Computer Science, IIT Delhi is a fantastic option!

IIT Delhi is better for recreational activities and has decent placement opportunities.

When it comes to CS vs. Electrical:

• If you want a high-salary job, go for CS.
• If you’re interested in core engineering and circuits, choose Electrical. In Delhi, Electrical combines electronics with instrumentation and control, making it a solid option.

Lifestyle-wise, Delhi has the edge. But KGP feels like home! You won’t want to leave. Unlimited internet downloads from DC++, tons of co-curricular activities, and a variety of societies mean you won’t regret your choice. The placement record for CS at KGP is comparable to Delhi and Bombay.

IIT Delhi is the better choice.

Reasons include:

• Better professors.
• Higher calibre of your future batchmates.
• Superior placement opportunities. Trust me, many multinational corporations like Samsung Korea and Rubrik U.S. don’t visit IIT Kharagpur, but they regularly recruit from IIT Delhi for internships and placements.
• More opportunities for pursuing further studies at top-tier international universities.

Additionally, IIT Delhi is situated in the heart of Delhi (South Delhi, to be exact) and is conveniently close to the Delhi airport. There are plenty of restaurants, malls, theatres, and bars to enjoy during weekends.

In contrast, the nearest city to IIT Kharagpur is Kolkata, which is about 140 km away. The closest decent restaurant to IIT Kharagpur is a Domino’s outlet, and it doesn’t even deliver pizzas inside the campus.

While I usually don’t put much stock in QS Rankings, you can take their assessment seriously when they rank IIT Delhi higher than IIT Kharagpur.
