Honestly, if placements are a major concern, you’d be better off choosing DTU Computer Science over any core branch. Opportunities in core branches are quite limited.

IIT Delhi Civil Engineering:

  • Generally, it's an academically relaxed department.
  • Known for hosting the best dinners and meetings.
  • Offers pathways into civil services (many students pursue this).
  • Consulting is an option (but you need to build the right profile).
  • There are software engineering jobs available, but they aren't particularly glamorous.

IIT Kharagpur Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering:

  • This branch has decent placement opportunities.
  • It’s a solid choice if you’re interested in electronics and electrical fields.

I don't have much knowledge about the computational branch at IIT Hyderabad, and I'm unsure if one exists.

IIT Delhi's Civil Engineering program offers a solid curriculum with highly qualified faculty and great campus life, but the focus is more on self-learning, which might not suit everyone. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering program is renowned for its rigorous academic structure and excellent placement opportunities, especially in tech and consulting sectors. While both colleges have vibrant campus activities, IIT Kharagpur might have an edge in terms of internship and placement prospects due to the variety of companies that recruit there. Personally, I would recommend IIT Kharagpur if you're leaning towards tech and placements, but if civil engineering is your passion, IIT Delhi has a unique charm and strong faculty support that can be equally rewarding.

I would strongly recommend choosing IITs! They offer incredible opportunities for research and placements. You can even apply for M.Tech and PhD programs without needing to take the GATE exam or go through placement interviews for many PSUs.

Also, IIT Hyderabad is now on par with the older IITs, so there’s not much difference in quality. Just make sure to check if hostel accommodations are available for students at the IIT Hyderabad campus.

Above all, follow your interests and passions when making your decision. Choose the college that aligns best with your goals. Good luck!

Consider the following priorities:

  • IIT Hyderabad - Computational. This will lead to excellent high-paying jobs in the IT sector.
  • IIT Kanpur - Mechanical. This ensures a good high-paying job in the Mechanical sector. Plus, IT companies often allow students from all branches to participate in their placement processes.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Civil Engineering has a more affordable fee structure, especially with tuition exemption for certain categories, while IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering is likely to have higher overall costs without detailed data. Placement prospects at IIT Delhi seem robust, with top companies regularly recruiting and a reported highest package of 2.65 crore, indicating a better ROI. Although both colleges provide excellent education, the financial aspect and significant placement opportunities at IIT Delhi make it a smarter choice for those looking for value for money. If you're focused on minimizing expenses and maximizing placement potential, IIT Delhi might be the better pick.
