Is doing B.Tech Automotive Engineering from DTU any good?

Doing B.Tech in Automotive Engineering at DTU has been a great choice for me! The curriculum is comprehensive, covering both theoretical and practical aspects, which is crucial for our field. The campus life is amazing; there are so many societies and fests to participate in! I got to know that the average stipend for internships is around 25k, which is pretty good. Even though the placement percentage is a bit low this year due to external factors, companies like Maruti and Honda are still coming for recruitment. I am currently a student at DTU pursuing automobile engineering. I’ll be sitting for placements this July, so I can offer a solid perspective.

Firstly, it’s important to note that automotive engineering is closely related to mechanical engineering. About 80 percent of the syllabus is officially similar to that of mechanical engineering.

In addition to that, we study 5 to 6 subjects related to production and industrial engineering as well.

Here are some key points to consider:

• 70 percent of the companies that recruit for mechanical engineering also open positions for us during placements. This can be seen as a drawback.
• Outside the college, our branch is often perceived as being the same as mechanical engineering due to the name change.
• DTU offers ample research opportunities and co-curricular activities.

I would suggest you consider dropping the course if you are confident about scoring better elsewhere; otherwise, it might be worth staying.

• It's comparable to IITs, but not quite the same.
• Admission to DTU is also quite competitive.
• The quality of education you find at IITs is often mirrored at DTU, and in some cases, the lucrative packages are similar too.

In 2017, the highest package offered to a CSE student was around 12.5 MILLION INR, which speaks volumes about the quality of education and the environment at the college. If you're aiming for those high packages typically associated with IITs, you won't be disappointed with DTU either.

However, keep in mind that hard work during your engineering curriculum is essential. Simply getting into IIT or DTU won't guarantee success in your career.
