Is it worth doing a B.Tech Automotive Engineering from DTU or not? What are its placement records and whats your experience with this college so far?

MAM 2017 batch placements:

• About 60% of the batch was placed (55 out of 84).
• Highest domestic package is around 11 LPA (in hand around 9).
• Highest international package is at Daikin HQ, Belgium for 40 LPA CTC (in hand around 25).
• Once you receive a domestic offer (in any month), you cannot sit for remaining domestic companies. You can only apply for international roles then.
• None of the jobs are in Delhi/NCR.
• 80% of the companies that came for placements were open to Mechanical students.
• Royal Enfield offered GET profiles.
• Daikin (Belgium + Czech Republic) had 4-5 seniors placed, which required immense hard work and multiple rounds of testing.
• Eligibility criteria: 70% marks and no active backlogs.
• PSUs also participated in on-campus placements. No fixed city for job locations.
• Non-tech offers were 5.5, 6.5, and 6 from the Big 4 giants.
• Core highest was 8 (Bajaj).

As a B.Tech Automotive Engineering student at DTU, I can confidently say that it’s worth it! The college has a fantastic reputation, especially when it comes to placements. Big names like Maruti and TCS come to recruit, and the stipend for internships is pretty impressive—25k on average, with some going as high as 200k! The campus atmosphere is lively, and you won’t miss out on any college experiences. The fees do increase slightly each year, but there are scholarships available based on financial need. Overall, if you’re looking for a good engineering program, DTU is definitely one of the best options!

Choosing a field of study is a significant decision for any student. I am currently pursuing Automobile Engineering from DTU, and I’m quite satisfied with my choice.

The reason for my satisfaction isn’t just the hope of landing a great placement or getting into a top college for my master’s. It’s that this stream has allowed me to explore and develop my passion.

The curriculum and timetable may seem overwhelming, but the quality of learning ultimately depends on the student. While the extensive curriculum might make exams easier, achieving high marks isn’t the real challenge. The essence of being a mechanical student sometimes feels lacking, except for those involved in car teams.

Regarding placements (in tech companies), very few companies refuse to recruit from our college. Most companies are open to hiring, but they tend to favor candidates with in-depth knowledge of specific subjects rather than a superficial understanding of many. This is why students in tech teams often excel.

To succeed, one needs to focus on building a strong foundation in subjects and connecting them to real-world applications. Almost every non-tech company is interested in us, and they primarily evaluate candidates based on their personality. The criteria are somewhat like this:

In the 2018 batch:

• Total students: 180+
• Placed in mechanical-related jobs: 50-60 (rough estimation, may vary by +, - 15)
• Rest placed in non-technical jobs, with very few in coding profiles.
• Some students left unplaced (maybe 30-40, typically those with backlogs or low grades and no skills).

Min package: around 3 LPA (in companies like INFOSYS)

Max package: around 16-17 LPA (in PSUs)

Most private companies that visit for mechanical profiles do not offer hefty salaries; they generally provide around 7-8 LPA and prefer high percentages (cut-off >65%, >70%). So, it's crucial to keep your GPA above 8.

5-6 PSUs (which offer good salaries) will visit and select mostly based on academic marks. Many students prepare for GATE to get into PSUs off-campus.

Honestly, doing B.Tech in Automotive Engineering from DTU has been a great experience for me so far. The campus life is vibrant, and there are tons of clubs and fests that make college life enjoyable. The curriculum is good, but I wish the teaching methods were a bit more dynamic.

As for placements, the recent trend shows that many top companies like Adobe and Google are hiring freshers, although the overall placement percentage has dipped a little due to external factors this year. The average stipend for internships is around 25k, which is not bad at all. If you’re from Delhi and looking for a solid engineering college, DTU is a strong contender!
