Is doing B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering from DTU any good?

Most subjects in Automotive Engineering, Production Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering are quite similar. Ultimately, production graduates can apply for jobs in companies that hire Mechanical and Automotive engineers, with a few exceptions for companies that only hire Mechanical graduates.

I chose B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering from DTU because of my passion for mechanics. The curriculum is aligned with industry needs, which is a huge plus. The faculty is experienced, so you get valuable insights during classes. Campus placements start from the 7th semester, and many top companies visit our campus. Although the fees are quite high, the placement opportunities make it worthwhile. The highest package I heard was around 1.8 crores, and the average is about 12 lakhs. It’s a competitive environment, but if you work hard, you’ll definitely benefit from it.

1. If you're aiming for a core mechanical job through campus placements, this branch might not be the best fit. Not all mechanical profile companies consider Production and Industrial Engineering (PIE), and the competition for core jobs is intense.

2. If you're looking at non-tech jobs, then this branch could work well for you! Non-tech companies generally accept candidates from all branches, and a good number of them visit DTU.

3. If you're planning to take exams like GATE, CAT, or civil services, PIE at DTU is a viable option.

However, it's advisable to prioritize core branches if that's your goal!

IPE is a branch of engineering that combines technical knowledge with management skills.

Just completing a B.Tech in IPE isn't enough for a career in teaching. You’ll also need to pursue an M.Tech in a specific engineering field specialization or an MBA/PGDM for a corporate career.

Many students opt for PGDIE from NITIE Mumbai for better specialization in their field of IPE.
