Is doing B.Tech Engineering Physics from DTU any good?

If you have a strong interest in Physics and Electronics (the branch is now called Engineering Physics with a focus on Electronics), then there are no major concerns with this program. Students with impressive projects and strong academic records can apply for Master's programs, and graduates from Engineering Physics have even made it to Stanford University!

Regarding placements, Engineering Physics is considered one of the core branches. Some companies, like Bharti Airtel and Freescale Semiconductors, do hire from this field. However, the success of placements often hinges on the current placement coordinator and their negotiation skills.

Most non-tech and coding companies welcome candidates from Engineering Physics, and these days, they tend to offer competitive packages to the right talent.

Having DTU (formerly DCE) on your resume can significantly enhance your reputation in the industry. Ultimately, your success will depend on being in the right place at the right time!

I am currently a student of Engineering Physics at DTU. Here’s what I can share about my experience so far:

• It’s a highly respected branch, especially if you plan to pursue an MS in physics, electrical engineering, or even computer science.
• In terms of hierarchy (rank-based), it is above civil, environmental, PCT, biotech, and PIE.
• Many students get frustrated with the placement percentage (DTU has a non-revelation policy) since only about 75% get placed. However, what’s often overlooked is that many students go straight for a master’s or PhD right after graduation.

Overall, it’s a solid branch. If you’re aiming for a decent package of 6–7 LPA, then it’s among the best that DTU has to offer.

P.S. Companies extended more offers to EP students than to civil for the outgoing batch of 2016–2017.

After two and a half years in this branch, I can confidently say that choosing B.Tech in Engineering Physics at DTU was the right decision!

Here’s a quick overview of the course:

• Engineering Physics, as the name suggests, dives deep into core physics subjects.
• At DTU, the curriculum isn't limited to physics; it also covers other subjects.
• You'll gain substantial knowledge in the digital aspects of electronics, making our syllabus somewhat similar to that of Electronics and Communication (about 60–70%).
• However, it’s not entirely ECE, as the analog part of electronics, which is crucial, isn’t included.

This similarity means that during placements and internships, many companies that recruit for EE, EEE, and ECE also consider our branch.

Regarding faculty, the Physics department at DTU boasts some esteemed names who can guide you well if you're planning to pursue further studies related to physics.

Now, onto grading patterns—here's the not-so-great news. Unlike other departments, the faculty in our department tends to be stricter with marks, so be prepared for that!

I’m currently in B.Tech Engineering Physics at DTU, and I can say it’s been a fantastic journey so far. The course covers essential topics like digital electronics and more, but I wish they focused a bit more on semiconductors in the core physics curriculum. The placement stats are impressive with over 85% of students getting placed, and companies like Google and Microsoft come for recruitment. The highest package this year was a jaw-dropping 1.7 crore! The campus vibe is also amazing, with so many activities happening all the time. If you want a lively college experience along with quality education, DTU is the place to be.

If you’re considering B.Tech in Engineering Physics at DTU, I’d definitely say go for it! The curriculum is well-structured and relevant to industry needs. The faculty is really dedicated, and I’ve learned a ton. An awesome perk is the internship scene; many reputed companies come to campus for hiring, and the stipend can go as high as 1 lakh per month. The campus life is buzzing with events like Engifest and various tech fests. Just keep in mind that fees are on the higher side, but the opportunities you get here make it worth it. You’ll have a great time while also building a solid career foundation!
