Is doing B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering from DTU any good?

Honestly, if you’re considering B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering from DTU, go for it! The college is one of the top institutes in India, and being in Delhi is a huge advantage. The placements are stellar; in 2023, the average package was around ?25.22 LPA! Plus, the internship opportunities are through the roof, with companies like Google and Microsoft actively recruiting. The fees for the first year are ?2,29,000, which can be a bit steep, but there are scholarships available for deserving students. Overall, DTU has a fantastic community and campus life that makes the experience worth every penny.

DTU is one of the premier engineering institutes in our country. This answer will consider all departments, as they are quite similar.

1. Faculty: The quality of faculty is surprisingly poor. Many professors lack clarity about their specializations. In one semester, they might teach a subject completely different from the last, and often, they enter the classroom unsure of what to teach. This issue extends to research work as well; it seems to be done just to secure a few publications in lesser-known Indian conferences.

2. Exceptions: There are a few professors in core branches (mechanical, civil, electrical) who are genuinely knowledgeable and doing commendable work, but these are just exceptions.

Despite these challenges, the three years at DTU have been some of the best of my life! The vibrant atmosphere, supportive seniors, placement opportunities, and events like Engifest contribute to making it one of the top colleges in the country.

I'm sharing this anonymously because criticizing the authorities can lead to repercussions.

Doing B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering from DTU has been a solid choice for me. The college is in Delhi, which is a big plus, especially for placements. Companies like Google and Microsoft come here for internships, and the highest stipend I’ve heard of was ?1,45,000 per month! The placement stats for 2023 are impressive too, with the highest package touching ?82.05 LPA. The only downside is the hostel food, which is just okay, but the campus life makes up for it with tons of clubs and events. Overall, if you get a chance, DTU is definitely worth it!

Let me break this down for you.

1. Any engineering branch is challenging, and ECE is no exception. As the name suggests, Electronics & Communication covers a lot. The electronics part includes topics like diodes, semiconductors, transistors, microprocessors, microcontrollers, embedded VLSI, and much more! On the communication side, you’ll dive into satellites and the intricacies of communication systems. All these concepts are interconnected.

2. Yes, it involves a lot of math and relatively less physics. But trust me, engineering math is significantly easier compared to the +2 mathematics you studied. You’ll likely have math for the first 4-5 semesters, depending on the academic curriculum of your college. Physics will be part of the first 2 semesters.

3. Asking how college life will be in ECE is the wrong approach. It should be about how your college life will shape up considering ECE as your stream. Your performance is key; your experience will depend on how you handle your academics. It won’t be easy—clearing papers in one go is a tough challenge. But I’m not saying it’s impossible. I managed to clear my papers in one go. Not bragging, just stating facts!

I am currently pursuing my B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering at DTU, and I can say that it’s a great decision. The curriculum has improved recently, especially after the NEP was implemented, making it more relevant to today’s job market. Internships are mandatory after the sixth semester, and I’ve seen classmates land roles at major tech companies. The placement report for 2023 showed 1,635 offers, which is fantastic. The hostel experience is decent, but the mess food could definitely be better. Still, the campus life is vibrant with numerous societies and fests.
