Is it worth doing a B.Tech Civil Engineering from DTU or not? What are its placement records and whats your experience with this college so far?

If you’re considering a B.Tech in Civil Engineering at DTU, I say go for it! The course is designed for those who want to work in construction and related fields. The faculty is quite good and helps out with notes and exam prep. Placement is where DTU shines; last year, 25 companies visited, offering 89 seats for us civil engineering students, which is a good ratio considering our class size of 140. The highest salary package was ?90,000 per month, with the lowest at ?35,000. Plus, we get to participate in some amazing cultural fests like Engifest. My overall experience here has been really enriching!

With most PSUs opting to recruit through GATE, the number of core companies visiting the campus has decreased. However, there are still several private firms that come for recruitment. Some of the companies that visited this year include:

So yes, while there are fewer core companies, there is a plethora of non-technical firms that visit the campus, open to all branches. This means you have ample opportunities for placement.

If you are inclined towards the technical field, it's advisable to start preparing for GATE exams, as that’s your best shot at securing a job. For those seeking non-technical roles, strong communication skills and aptitude are essential, as the competition is fierce.

Regarding branch changes, it depends on your AIEEE rank. The final upgraded list is typically released in the 2nd semester, which is when you can hope to switch branches, unless you have frozen your current one.

I’m currently in the Civil Engineering program at DTU, and I can say it’s a good decision. The college has a great reputation in terms of placements. In 2025, over 25 companies came for our placements, and they offered a total of 89 positions for our civil branch. The highest package reached ?90,000 per month, which is pretty decent. The faculty is supportive and provides useful notes, especially during exams. Also, we have various internship opportunities; last year, companies like Amazon and others visited for internships, and you can earn around ?10,000 monthly. Overall, my experience has been positive, and the campus life is vibrant with events and fests.

I wasn't entirely sure about this branch, which is why I chose Engineering Physics, as its syllabus is somewhat similar to ECE. But if you're heading to DTU, keep this in mind: Civil Engineering is a core branch, and DTU is a Tier-1 college. So, you can expect a decent starting salary of around 5–7 lakhs p.a. Engineering Physics also offers packages in a similar range. So, prioritize and choose the branch based on your interests!
