Last year's cutoff for OBC in CSE was under a 5000 rank. So, if you score above 98 percentile, you’re in a safe zone with good chances of getting admission to Delhi Technological University. Home state reservation is quite powerful, even for the general category and other categories.

The OTHER BACKWARD CLASS CUTOFF for JEE MAINS 2023 is - 73.6114227, and this year's cutoff is expected to be almost the same. So, friends, start your revision because the JEE Mains exam is in mid-January 2024.

It’s not very hard to clear the cutoff in JEE Mains because we have three subjects: Chemistry, Physics, and Maths.

  • Chemistry is easier compared to the other subjects, so revise it daily! This subject can significantly improve your rank and percentile.
  • Physics is not easy, but it’s not extremely difficult either. It has interesting topics.

Most important chapters to focus on:

  • Semiconductor
  • Ray optics
  • Electrostatics and capacitors (look for 2 questions)
  • Modern physics (expect 2 or 3 questions)
  • Dimensional errors and vectors
  • KTG and thermodynamics (look for 2 questions)

For admission to B.Tech courses like Chemical Engineering at DTU, shooting for a score above 95 percentile in JEE Mains is crucial for students outside Delhi. I personally didn’t hit the marks for the top tech branches, but I still got into a good program. If you manage to secure those marks, the rest of the admission process is quite simple with JAC counseling.

If you're eyeing B.Tech at Delhi Technological University, you need to target around 95 percentile in JEE Mains if you’re not a Delhi student. Delhi students can get in with around 75 percentile, which is more manageable. I ended up in Chemical Engineering, and even though I didn’t get my first choice, I’m happy with my decision. Just make sure to register for JAC after your results!

(I am assuming that you are from the Delhi Region)

Nowadays, it's not just about your JEE Main Score; your board marks play a significant role too. Let's break it down:

  • 1) If your board percentage is in the range of 93% to 95%, you'll need to score around 185-200 to get into branches like IT/ECE.
  • 2) However, if your board percentage is above 96%, your percentile will be significantly higher, which greatly aids in normalization. With a score of 200+, you can achieve a rank below 5000 and secure CS in DTU.

In my opinion, focusing on your board exams is crucial for a good rank, and a decent score in JEE Mains will definitely boost your ranking. For instance, students with 89% in boards and a score of 225 in mains ended up with a rank of about 10000, while those with 98% and a score of 175 in mains achieved around a 1500 rank.

PS: The criteria mentioned above were applicable for admissions until 2016. From 2017 onwards, admission is based solely on the JEE Main score. So, study hard for your JEE Exam, but also aim for a decent score in your boards, especially if you plan to pursue an MBA later on, as 12th marks are considered.

Admission to DTU is based on the All India Rank. If you belong to the general category, your rank should be under 30k for a chance at admission. Remember, the better your rank, the better branch you can secure!

  • For CS, IT, and SE, aim for a rank under 10k.
  • For EE, ME, CE, and MCE, your rank should be under 20k.
  • For MAM, PIE, ENE, PCT, and BT, keep your rank under 30k.

Hope this helps!
