Almost everything.
Despite all these cons, you can still learn a lot. The best part about DTU is the student quality. Most students are brilliant, and teaming up with them will definitely benefit you. Another positive aspect of DTU is its ability to attract a large number of companies, which is indeed commendable.
One of the worst things about studying at DTU, especially at the east campus, is the faculty situation. There are around 2000 students and only about 30 permanent teachers! Most of the faculty are guest lecturers, which sometimes makes the quality of education inconsistent. While many of them are experienced, like JNU PhD scholars, it can be frustrating when you have to deal with different teaching styles and expectations. Sometimes, it feels like we’re more on our own than supported.
1. Sabse pehli aur badi dikkat DTU ki ADMINISTRATION hai. DTU ki administration bilkul entrenched Indian bureaucrats ki tarah hai. General administration (hostel wardens, alag-alag departments ke in-charges): DTU mein yeh aam hai ki agar bara babu ek mahine ke liye chutti par chale gaye, toh aapka kaam tab tak nahi hoga jab tak wo wapas nahi aate, chahe aapke deadlines kitne hi important kyun na ho. Kisi ko parwaah nahi hai, aur agar aap poochte hain, toh jawab milta hai rude tone mein, “wo nahi hain toh mai kya karoon, yeh aapka headache hai, yahan se jao.”
Agar koi assigned authority maujood nahi hai, toh uska substitute hona chahiye jo uska kaam sambhale. Kaam ko kyun roka jaaye? Yeh ek prestigious university hai, koi block panchayat ya municipality office nahi. Agar aapko kisi competition mein participate karne ke liye recommendation chahiye, toh chahe assigned authority competition khatam hone ke baad aaye, aapko recommendation tabhi milega jab wo wapas aayenge.
2. Dusri cheez jo mujhe DTU ke baare mein bother karti hai, yeh hai ki yeh ek fully accommodated university nahi hai jo sabhi students ko hostel facilities provide karti hai.
Honestly, the fees at DTU can be a real downer. I mean, for three years, I paid around 3 lakh rupees, which is quite high compared to other colleges in Delhi. For instance, in DU, the cost is under 15k! Plus, if you have a backlog in one subject, you’re hit with a fee of 5500, which feels pretty unfair. With all the other expenses, it’s tough when you’re trying to manage finances as a college student.
The placement scene at DTU can be quite disappointing too. I’ve seen that only about 20-25% of students are getting placed for UG, and even then, the highest package is only 13 LPA, which isn’t that great considering the competition out there. Companies like Amazon and Byjus visited, but many students didn't hear back from them. It makes the whole experience a bit disheartening, especially when you’re aiming for a good job after graduation in 2026.
