What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Being a HOD it’s my responsibility to be a guiding force for my students. These days the students of any college or university are under tremendous pressure to choose a career. I try my best to provide a soothing atmosphere to lead from darkness of ignorance to the light of true knowledge.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain knowledge?

I am fortunate to be head and Dean of the faculty of modern subjects, Director of Women Studies Centre and Associate NCC Officer in a traditional university where modern subjects are being taught. The students are trained in languages- Hindi and English, their skills are developed through training in computer science. They are taught subjects like Sociology and Political science and environmental studies to pursue their career in various new fields and they gain knowledge in modern subjects.

What do you think sets your university apart from other colleges and universities?

Our’s is a traditional university but it’s one of its kind where NCC wing for girls and boys and Centre for Women Studies for student’s sensitisation and female empowerment is there and where Yoga and Naturopathy training is also imparted in the light of modern medical science. All these courses impart values and knowledge to the students to make them better citizens of the society.

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

First of all, the duty of the teachers is to give proper ears to their students whatever may be their problem is – personal or official. Then coming to their level, asking them all possible solutions & finally reaching the best one. Since 1993 I have been following this path. For the competition which is really so high I motivate, guide and assist them in all possible ways wherever they need my help.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to raise the quality of education of your department?

Under NEP 2020, the vast knowledge of all the students is limited to credit based curriculum. So the students are not taught topics in detail. Therefore, they lack deep knowledge of the subject and in future, they will be jack of all trades and master of none. If some modifications are not done in guideline of UGC under NEP2020.

What do you see as the department’s/ college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

All the modern subjects of my department are career oriented but there is a lack of enough faculty members and infrastructure. If UGC sanctions more posts and provides enough infrastructure, we will be able to prepare them for self-employment.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

My advice to the students is that first of all, they should choose their subjects, not under some compulsion but they should think and decide as per their interest and passion. This will help in keeping them away from any stress and frustration in later stages. Then, they can look at the future prospects of their degree course and keep in mind that if they pursue their studies, they would certainly have a golden future.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

It is a great day today. It’s Guru Poornima. I pray to God to shower his blessings upon all of us. On this auspicious occasion, I salute this Guru Shishya Parampara, and all young students may stay blessed by their Guru’s divine blessings with knowledge, wisdom and inner peace.
