NEET PG Question Paper 2026: Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
Every NEET PG paper above uses the same NBEMS computer-based pattern. So the paper you practise on matches the paper you sit. The one big change from 2024 is the move to time-locked sections.
- Total questions: 200 single-best-answer MCQs across 19 subjects
- Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes
- Total marks: 800
- Marking scheme: +4 for a correct answer, -1 for a wrong one, 0 for unattempted
- Section rule (2024 onwards): 5 sections (A to E) of 40 questions, 42 minutes each, no going back once a section ends
- Question style: clinical case questions, image-based diagnosis, and single-best-answer recall
Which NEET PG Question Paper Years Matter Most for 2026 Preparation
All the papers help, but they are not equal for your 2026 prep. The newer papers match the clinical, image-based style NBEMS now uses. The older papers repeat many high-yield one-liners.
- Start with 2021 and 2019: these match the current clinical-case pattern most closely, so use them as your benchmark mocks.
- Use 2017 and 2018 for breadth: both are full solved papers across every subject, so they help you find weak areas early.
- Solve 2010 to 2014 to find repeats: NEET PG reuses concepts a lot. These older papers still ask the same one-liners in new words.
- Keep 2024 for last: use it as your final timed test after you fix your weak areas. It matches the locked-section format you will sit.
NEET PG Subject Wise Weightage Across Question Papers
Across years, the clinical subjects have the most questions. Internal Medicine and its allied topics alone can decide your rank. So revise in the order of the weightage below, not textbook order.
| Subject | Approx. Questions | Difficulty | What to Watch For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Internal Medicine and allied | 40-45 | Moderate-Hard | Clinical case questions, ECG and image-based diagnosis |
| Surgery and allied | 28-32 | Moderate-Hard | Trauma, instruments, recent guideline changes |
| Obstetrics and Gynaecology | 28-30 | Moderate | Partograph, contraception, high-risk pregnancy |
| Pharmacology | 14-16 | Moderate | Mechanism of action, newer drugs, antidotes |
| Pathology | 13-15 | Moderate | Slide-based questions, tumour markers |
| PSM (Community Medicine) | 13-15 | Easy-Moderate | Biostatistics, national health programmes |
Do not skip the smaller subjects. Microbiology, Anatomy, and PSM together give you 35 plus easy marks. Their questions are also more direct than the clinical ones.

How to Use NEET PG Previous Year Question Papers to Clear the Cutoff
Downloading the papers is the easy part. The students who turn them into rank treat every wrong answer as a topic to fix, not just a lost mark.
- Solve one full paper as a timed 3.5-hour mock before you read any solution. This trains your stamina along with your recall.
- Sort every wrong answer into three groups: silly error, never knew it, and half-knew it. The half-knew group is where you gain marks fastest.
- Check each wrong answer with the solution PDF linked beside that year. Then write the correct one-liner into one revision notebook.
- Redo only your wrong questions after a week. If you still miss it, the problem is the concept, not the question.
- Aim for 140 to 155 attempts at about 85% accuracy. This was the safe zone in recent years.
FAQs on NEET PG Question Papers 2026
Ques. Where can I download NEET PG previous year question papers with solutions PDF for free?
Ans. Use the table above on Collegedunia. Every year from 2010 to 2025 has a free question paper PDF. The Check Solutions link opens the full solved paper for that year. NBEMS posts the official paper and answer key on natboard.edu.in.
Ques. How many years of NEET PG question papers should I solve?
Ans. Solve at least the last 8 papers. The 2017 to 2021 papers train you for the current clinical style. The 2010 to 2014 papers still repeat one-liners that NBEMS asks again in new words.
Ques. Are NEET PG questions repeated from previous year papers?
Ans. Concepts repeat far more than exact questions. The same high-yield ideas - antidotes, partograph, tumour markers - come back every few years in a new clinical form. That is why these papers are worth solving.
Ques. Which NEET PG question paper year is the most relevant for 2026 preparation?
Ans. NEET PG 2021 is the closest to the current pattern and the best benchmark mock. Keep NEET PG 2024 for last. It follows the time-locked 5-section format you will sit.
Ques. How many questions should I attempt in NEET PG to clear the cutoff?
Ans. Aim for 140 to 155 attempts at about 85% accuracy. Around 276 out of 800 cleared the 50th percentile general-category line in 2025. With the -1 penalty, accuracy matters more than attempting blindly.
Ques. Did the NEET PG exam pattern change, and are old question papers still useful?
Ans. The format changed in 2024 to 5 time-locked sections of 40 questions each. The syllabus and question style did not change. Old papers are still useful for content. Just practise the newer ones under the section-lock rule to fix your pacing.
