NEET PG Cut off 2024 FAQs
Ques. What was the cut-off for SMS Medical College General Medicine in the NEET PG exam last year?
Ans. 466 was the cut-off rank (General Medicine) for SMS Medical College, Jaipur in 2023. The cutoff within the same medical college can also vary with different courses.
Ques. With my score of 260, what are my chances of getting into a PG seat through NEET PG?
Ans. For reserved category candidates, with 260 marks in NEET PG exam you can get a low to medium rank medical college. Open category candidates need 280+ marks to get any seat in NEET PG.
Ques. What is the qualifying percentile for NEET PG?
Ans. The qualifying percentile for NEET PG varies for different categories. For example, for the general category, it's usually around the 50 percentile, while for SC/ST/OBC categories, it's lower, around the 40 percentile. These percentiles are subject to change each year.
Ques. What is the difference between NEET PG qualifying percentile and NEET PG admission cutoff?
Ans. The qualifying percentile is the minimum percentile required to pass the exam and become eligible for admission, while the admission cutoff is the last rank at which admission is accepted in a particular college. The admission cutoff depends on various factors like the number of seats available, reservation criteria, and preferences of colleges and courses.
Ques. How are the cut-offs for different specialisations within the NEET PG exam?
Ans. The cutoff scores for different specialisations within the NEET PG exam can vary from year to year and depend on factors such as the difficulty of the exam, the number of candidates appearing, and the availability of seats in each specialisation. Generally, more competitive and sought-after specialisations like radiology, dermatology, and orthopaedics tend to have higher cutoff scores, while less popular specialisations may have lower cutoff scores.
Ques. How does the difficulty level of the NEET PG exam impact the cut-offs?
Ans. When the exam is more challenging, it generally results in lower average scores among test takers. As a result, the cutoff scores may decrease as well, since a lower percentage of candidates may achieve the minimum required score to qualify for admission to various specialisations. Conversely, if the exam is perceived as easier, more candidates may achieve higher scores, leading to higher cutoff scores as there's a greater competition for limited seats in popular specialisations.
Ques. What are some strategies to improve my chances of securing a seat in the desired college/ specialisation through NEET PG?
Ans. Begin your preparation well in advance of the exam date. High scores can improve your chances of securing a seat in a good college. You may also consider joining coaching classes, practice and revise the notes and important subjects. There are also different quotas you can apply to gain benefits.
Ques. Is there any reservation for differently-abled candidates in NEET PG?
Ans. Yes, there is reservation for differently-abled candidates in NEET PG. A certain percentage of seats are reserved for candidates with physical disabilities as per the guidelines set by the government.
Ques. How does the tie-breaker criteria work for NEET PG merit list?
Ans. The tie-breaker criteria for NEET PG merit list are:
- Candidates with a higher number of correct answers in NEET PG question paper are given a higher rank.
- Applicants with fewer incorrect answers are ranked higher.
- In case of a further tie, the age of the candidate is considered, with the elder candidate being awarded the higher rank.
