The MHT CET 2026 cutoff is expected soon after counselling ends, with top institutes like COEP Pune and VJTI Mumbai likely to witness the highest closing ranks for CSE and IT.
The engineering colleges like COEP Pune, VJTI Mumbai, and PICT Pune that have been top in the past, are predicted to lead the most competitive cutoffs in 2026.
- COEP Pune: Computer Science Engineering (CSE) cutoff is likely to range from 7,000 to 7,500. Besides this, the cutoff for Mechanical Engineering may be around 42,000–45,000.
- VJTI Mumbai: CSE cutoff might be 9,000-9,500. Besides this, the cutoff for Mechanical Engineering may range from 40,000 to 42,000.
- PICT Pune: The expected cutoff for CSE is around 9,500–10,000, and for Mechanical Engineering, it may be around 48,000–50,000.
Since CSE is the most popular branch, candidates looking for admission should aim for the top 7,000 ranks at COEP Pune and below 10,000 at VJTI/PICT Pune.

What is the MHT CET Cut-Off 2026?
As of October 2025, the official MHT CET 2026 cutoffs have not been released. Nevertheless, a probable band of cutoff scores can be given to facilitate admission into the best engineering colleges of Maharashtra, based on their past-year cutoffs.
- General Category (Open): To get into the top 5 colleges, a score of more than 160 marks is what the candidates should keep in mind. Thereafter, one can be admitted to such departments as Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) or Information Technology (IT).
- Reserved Categories (OBC, SC, ST): The cutoff for these groups is usually at a lower level. So, candidates require around 150–155 marks to enter CSE or IT at a good, general university.
- Engineering Branch Variations: The primary factor behind such lower cutoffs, which concern the suspense range of 140 to 170 marks, is the number of seats, along with comparatively less competition in branches like Mechanical and Civil Engineering.
| College Name | Branch | Expected Cutoff (Marks) | Expected Percentile |
|---|---|---|---|
| COEP, Pune | CSE | 160+ | 99+ |

Ques. Why is there such a large gap between General and ST cutoffs in top branches like CSE?
Ans. The cutoff difference exists to provide equitable access to top branches for reserved category candidates.
- In COEP Pune, the difference between the General (160+) and ST (95–100) cutoffs is around 60 marks.
- This reflects the reservation policy, which provides significant relaxation for reserved categories to ensure equitable access to premier branches.
- Students from reserved categories can thus compete effectively even with lower marks.
Ques. How much lower are Mechanical Engineering cutoffs compared to CSE across categories?
Ans. Mechanical Engineering cutoffs are consistently lower, giving students strategic options if their scores are below CSE cutoffs.
- Mechanical Engineering cutoffs are generally 20–25 marks less than CSE.
- This difference helps students target branches strategically if their scores are below the top branch cutoffs.

If you are non-domiciled in Maharashtra, you can apply for MHT CET, if you have a valid JEE Main score for admissions to BTech, B.E. and B Pharm courses.
There is however no category-wise eligibility criteria for candidates who are non-domiciled in Maharashtra. MHT CET is almost equivalent to JEE Main as students who have cleared JEE Main are not required to take the MHT CET exams and are directly referred to the counselling rounds.
Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute releases MHT CET cut-offs for each programs and the different categories of students. With 93 percentile score you might be able to meet the cut-off for some of the B.Tech programs. You can check the cut-off trend of this college from VJTI Cut-off.
