BITSAT 2026 Counselling: Admission Iterations
BITS Pilani conducts admissions through an online process called iterations, not through traditional offline counselling. All seat allotment rounds happen entirely online and candidates do not need to physically visit any campus during the iteration process. This is one of the most distinctive features of BITS admissions compared to IIT and NIT admissions through JoSAA.
What Are Iterations?
An iteration is one round of seat allotment. In each round, BITS Pilani assigns programmes to candidates based on their BITSAT merit score, Class 12 marks eligibility, and the programme preferences they submitted. Candidates who receive a seat allotment can accept it or wait for a better allotment in the next round. You do not lose your current allotment by staying in the process — but you must pay the first iteration fee by the deadline to remain active in the system.
BITSAT 2026 Iteration Schedule (Expected)
| Event | Expected Date |
|---|---|
| Iteration 1 Seat Allotment | June 20, 2026 |
| Iteration 1 Fee Payment Deadline | June 22, 2026 |
| Iterations 2–7 | July – August 2026 (dates to be announced) |
| Admission Confirmed (After Final Iteration) | August 2026 |
Step-by-Step Iteration Process
- Apply for Admission: Eligible candidates need to apply through the BITS admission portal and submit their Class 12 marks and programme preferences. This window was open from April 21 to June 1, 2026, with an edit window from June 3–5. This step is now closed for BITSAT 2026.
- Iteration 1 Allotment: BITS Pilani releases the first seat allotment on June 20, 2026. Candidates log in to see which programme and campus they have been allotted based on their merit and preferences.
- Accept and Pay: Whether or not you want to keep the allotted programme, pay the first-year fee by June 22, 2026, to stay in the system. This fee lets you participate in all remaining iterations.
- Subsequent Iterations: In each subsequent round, seats vacated by candidates who dropped out are reallocated. Candidates who paid the fee are automatically considered for upgrades to better programmes or campuses based on their preferences and merit rank.
- Final Admission: After all 7 iterations are complete, your final allotted programme and campus become your confirmed admission. Only then do you need to visit the campus for physical registration and document verification.

Documents Required at the Time of Physical Admission
- Class 10 and Class 12 original marksheets and pass certificates
- Transfer Certificate or School Leaving Certificate
- Migration Certificate (if applicable)
- Recent passport-size photographs
- Medical fitness certificate from a registered doctor
- Category or caste certificate (if applicable)
- Valid government photo ID (Aadhaar card, passport, etc.)
If you do not pay the admission fee by the Iteration 1 deadline (June 22, 2026), you will be dropped from all future iteration rounds and lose your seat allotment. Paying the fee does not lock you into that programme — you can still be upgraded to a better programme or campus in later iterations.
Direct Admission Scheme (DAS)
The top scorers in BITSAT may be eligible for BITS Pilani’s Direct Admission Scheme (DAS), under which a small number of top-ranked candidates are offered direct admission to their preferred programme and campus without going through all seven iteration rounds. BITS Pilani announces DAS eligibility separately based on the merit list.
