Admission to the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) colleges in India is based on the NCHMCT JEE exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency in April, with results in May and sessions starting in July. Admission hinges on the All India Rank, and selections are made through three counseling sessions considering rank, reservation, and seat availability. IHM Bangalore is the top-ranked institution due to its experienced faculty, with each lecturer having at least 25 years in the hotel industry.
The faculty-to-student ratio is about 1:100, ensuring personalized education. The curriculum includes four subjects with both theory and practical exams. The total fee for the three-year program is approximately 3.5 to 4.5 lakh rupees, with semester fees between 55,000 to 60,000 INR. There are additional costs for IGNOU fees, uniforms, and books, with late payment charges ranging from 500 to 1,000 rupees. While the college does not offer direct scholarships, it assists students in obtaining government scholarships and provides fee waivers for toppers.
Placements are strong, with major hotel chains and retail companies like Marriott, Hilton, Taj, ITC, Oberoi, Starbucks, McDonald's, Puma, and Bata recruiting from the college. The highest salary packages range from 6 to 8 lakhs per annum, while average packages are between 3 to 4 lakhs per annum. Students begin attending placement drives from the 5th semester. Industrial internships are mandatory, occurring in the second year for four months, with stipends ranging from 1,000 to 7,000 INR per month.
The college's training cell ensures comprehensive exposure during these internships. Despite challenges posed by the pandemic, the college continues to strive for high placement rates.
