SJMSOM MBA Admission 2026

The candidates who hold a Bachelor's degree with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD) are eligible to apply for the MBA program. Students currently in their final year of graduation can also apply.

Important Points Students Should Know
  • CAT Sectional Weightage: SJMSOM gives extra importance to your scores in VARC, DILR, and QA. So even if your overall percentile is good, weak performance in one section can affect shortlisting.
  • Work Experience: Not compulsory, but it helps. Longer and better-quality work experience gives extra points in the PI Shortlisting(5%).
  • Reserved Categories: Cutoffs and shortlisting are lower for SC/ST/PwD/EWS/OBC candidates. OBC: 27%, SC: 15%, EWS: 10%, ST: 7.5% and DAP (Differently Abled Persons): 5%, horizontal across GN, SC, ST and OBC
  • No GD: There is no Group Discussion only Personal Interview.
  • Final Result: Usually declared in the last week of April or first week of May 2026.

Get a detailed overview for MBA Interview in the above video.

In the final stage of the MBA admission process, final selection will be based on the cumulative score of performance in CAT, Academic Performance, Work experience and the candidate’s performance in PI. The weightage given to different components for arriving at the final score is given.

Components Weight
Performance in CAT
(OverallScaled Score)
75%
Academic Profile Class XII or Equivalent (5%)
Under Graduate (UG) degree (10%)
Post Graduate Qualification/Professional Affiliation (3% - 5%)
Work Experience 5%

Note: Women applicants may be shortlisted to improve gender diversity without giving any additional weightage.

SJMSOM Cutoff

The SJMSOM 2026 cutoff has not been released yet. However, students can get a better idea about the closing ranks from the previous year cutoff. These cutoffs help decide if a candidate is eligible for further admission rounds. The table below shows the SJMSOM Cutoff 2025 for the General Category:

Category Overall Cut-off VARC DILR Quant
General 90 75 75 75

Meeting just the minimum cutoff does not guarantee a call; the actual shortlist often demands a higher percentile (around 98+ for general category candidates). Besides the CAT score, academic performance, work experience, and gender diversity also play crucial roles in the selection process. So, aspirants aiming for SJMSOM should target a CAT percentile well above the minimum and maintain a strong overall profile. It’s also important to perform well in the PI (Personal Interview) rounds, which have significant weightage(75%) in the final selection.

SJMSOM IDDDP Admission 2025

The Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degree Program (IDDDP) in Management at SJMSOM, allows 4th-year B.Tech, BS, or Dual Degree students to earn both their original degree and an MBA in one integrated program without needing a separate MBA later.

Students gain a powerful mix of technical expertise and management skills. Only current IIT Bombay students from B.Tech, BS, or Dual Degree streams are eligible. Applications are submitted at the end of the 6th semester, after receiving approval from your department’s Undergraduate Committee (DUGC).

Aspect Details
Program Name IDDDP in Management (Dual Degree: B.Tech/BS + MBA)
Who Can Apply Only IIT Bombay B.Tech / BS / Dual Degree students (end of 6th semester)
Minimum CPI Required 7.5 (no backlogs allowed)
Specializations Offered Finance (10 seats), Operations Management (10 seats)
Total Seats 20
Key First Step Get DUGC approval from your parent department
Main Selection Stages CPI-based shortlisting → Personal Interview
What Interview Checks Motivation, communication, current affairs/economy knowledge, fit for management + tech combo
Important Documents SOP, transcripts, DUGC letter, resume (if asked)
Application Timing End of 6th semester (check notices; past examples around June)
When MBA Courses Start From 7th semester (alongside core degree)
Placements & Internships Same as regular SJMSOM MBA students (summer internship + final placements)

shortlisting happens mainly based on your CPI. Then, final selection is through an interview. The interview checks:

  • Your subject knowledge and general awareness (current affairs, economy, corporate news).
  • Communication skills and managerial interest.
  • Motivation for management + how it fits your tech background. Sometimes they look at projects you've done, but no specific project is required. You pick one specialization only (Finance or Operations) during application, if not selected, you're not considered for the other.

NOTE: CPI stands for Cumulative Performance Index. So, a CPI of 7.5 means your total performance so far is 7.5/10 — it's like your "CGPA" but called CPI at IIT Bombay.

The complete admission process was seamless for SJMSOM as compared to other institutes. It starts with appearing for the CAT examination in which we need to score 90 percentile overall and 75 percentile in sectionals to be eligible in the open category ( www.som.iitb.ac.in ). The application forms opened around the first week of January and we applied from the admissions page of SJMSOM for the same. The shortlists were released around mid-February and the interviews were held in the first week of march through an AI-based interactive platform named Gather. We were also allotted PI Buddies who aided us throughout the process.

The course is only eligible for people with a 4-year degree. The application forms could be tracked on the website and telegram groups and the date for application was the 31st of January. The application fee was 1600rs and no reservation benefits were availed by me. The admission process was seamless and on time, and the dates were followed religiously. One recommendation I would have is that they should provide confirmation after acceptance of the offer letter for those who need to withdraw from other colleges.
