Course Curriculum Overview:
It is a highly complex process. The explanation below is tedious, but it is instructive for students (and potential faculty) to appreciate the effort that goes into this.
First, there is a curriculum committee, which may take a number of forms. Sometimes it is a separate committee. Sometimes it is the undergraduate committee operating for undergraduate courses and the graduate committee operating for graduate courses.
The general requirements for the departmental major(s) and minor(s) (the department may offer more than one). are set by the college in terms of the number of course credits necessary to fulfill graduation qualifications. These general requirements for majors and minor will be uniform throughout the college. In a large university with many colleges there will be a general university requirement for all majors.
