Ques. Is the B.Tech Lateral Entry (Food Technology) at AJCE the same as the regular B.Tech Food Technology?
Ans. Yes, the degree awarded is the same - B.Tech in Food Technology from APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). The only difference is that lateral entry students join directly in the 3rd semester (2nd year), completing the degree in 3 years instead of 4. The curriculum from 3rd semester onwards is identical to the regular programme.
Ques. What Diploma branches are eligible for lateral entry into B.Tech Food Technology at AJCE?
Ans. Candidates with a Diploma in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Technology are typically eligible for lateral entry into Food Technology (as per KTU/LBS equivalency norms). Candidates with B.Sc in Mathematics may also be eligible. It is advisable to check the latest LBS prospectus for the exact branch equivalency list.
Ques. How many lateral entry seats are available in B.Tech Food Technology at AJCE?
Ans. As per the 2025 LBS seat vacancy data, AJCE had 3 lateral entry seats available in Food Technology under the centralized allotment. The total regular intake for B.Tech Food Technology is 60 seats.
Ques. What is the placement scenario for Food Technology graduates from AJCE?
Ans. Food Technology graduates from AJCE are placed in both government and private sector organizations. Government placements include BARC, DFRL, FSSAI, FCI, ICAR, and NABARD. Private sector placements span dairy, edible oil, sugar, fruit and vegetable processing, packaged food, beverage, and baked goods industries. The department actively supports placements through its Career Enhancement Cell.
Ques. Can I apply for the AJCE Food Technology lateral entry programme from outside Kerala?
Ans. Yes, non-Keralite candidates are eligible to apply for Kerala LET. However, non-Keralites are considered only for State Merit seats under Government quota and Management Quota seats. They are not eligible for seats reserved exclusively for Keralites.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for lateral entry students at AJCE?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at AJCE (Santhom for boys, Amala for girls) is available but subject to availability. Students need to apply for hostel admission along with their college admission. The hostel fee for B.Tech students is Rs. 45,000 per year (inclusive of room rent, mess advance, laundry, and other charges). It is advisable to apply early as seats are limited.
