Ans. Since you haven’t mentioned the branch you are interested in, I will assume you have no particular preference. Now, the primary factor to consider is if you value the brand of the college or the branch of your choice. Consider the following points  You can go for a less preferred branch at the top 5 IITs and then work hard for branch change. But this would be risky as branch change is very difficult. If your target is to get placed with excellent packages, then choose the CSE branch, it has the best job opportunities. You can also choose to work for noncore placements at the top 5 IITs. However, this will be very time-consuming as you have to manage both your noncore branch and CSE.  The best option would be to choose IIT Dhanbad CSE. It’s true that it won’t offer the opportunities and exposure that the top 5 IITs would but for me branch is more important than the brand name of the college. So, choose according to your preferences. Read more

Ans.  I don’t need to even think twice before saying that IIT Dhanbad CSE is a far better option than Thapar CSE. The former is funded by the central government thereby offering an excellent academic background and opportunities. IIT Dhanbad has a beautiful campus and a vibrant campus life.  Here is the placement scenario of its CSE branch: Placement Percentage 93.13% Average Package INR 27.29 LPA Salary Range INR 5 LPA to INR 56 LPA Number of Recruiters 167 Thapar University, on the other hand, is a semi-government tier 2 that cannot be compared to IIT Dhanbad at all. Ans. As a B.Tech ECE student at IIT Dhanbad, I can give you some insight on this course. The ECE faculty consists of a handful of professors who are genuinely interested in this branch. You’ll get to study from them in the last 3-4 semesters. The rest won’t teach or guide you much.  Only the top performers get placed in core companies. Most of the recruitments are made by IT and software firms. For those jobs, you must learn good enough coding to be able to compete with fellow CSE students. Pursue ECE only if you have an interest in Electronics, Semiconductors and Communications Systems. These are some details about B.Tech ECE at IIT Dhanbad. Ans. IIT Dhanbad is better in CSE as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Dhanbad, established in 1926, is one of the oldest institutes in the country. On the contrary, IIT Bhubaneswar, established in 2008, comes under the list of new IITs. The overall placement package for CSE at IIT Bhubaneswar might be more alluring than IIT Dhanbad, according to 2019 placement statistics there was 100% placement from the CSE branch and the average placement package offered was around 11.4 LPA while the highest went up to 39 LPA. However, in IIT Dhanbad, the placement rate of the CSE students were 90.23% and the highest CTC offered was 39.5 LPA. Besides the number of students at IIT Dhanbad is more than IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Dhanbad has an excellent coding culture and organizes a vast number of technical and cultural fests. The number of opportunities in CSE offered by both institutions is almost the same. However, IIT Dhanbad definitely has a slight edge over IIT Bhubaneswar. Being one of the oldest institutes, IIT Dhanbad has better infrastructure as compared to IIT Bhubaneswar. Ans. The answer to this question depends on various factors but to keep it short let’s talk about the NIRF-2019 ranking (engineering category) and placement statistics (CSE Branch) of the institutes. IIT Dhanbad has been ranked at 15th among NIRF Ranking 2019. According to the placement statistics of 2019-20, the percentage of b-tech computer science students placed during campus placements was 90.23%. The percentage of B. Tech & M. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering (dual degree) placed during campus placements was 66.67% with the highest CTC of INR 23.80 LPA. The highest salary package offered in the computer science branch (B. Tech) was 39.50 LPA. The overall average package offered in all the b-tech branches was 15.50 LPA. Major recruiters include Accenture, Goldman Sach, Synopsys, Microsoft, Flipkart, Siemens, Amazon, Adobe, etc. Indian Institute Of Technology, Bhubaneswar has a NIRF Ranking-17. The placement statistics 2019-20 reveal the overall percentage of b-tech students placed during campus placement drives was around 89.55%. The percentage of computer science students placed was 100% this year but the average CTC offered to the students was less than that of IIT Dhanbad. The highest package offered to the computer science branch was INR 39 LPA. The major recruiters included Amazon, Adobe, Accenture, Akash Institute, BYJU, Atkins, Angel Broking, DELL, Honeywell, INTEL technology, etc. The average package offered was 11.90 LPA. Finally, other facilities such as labs, faculty, and other infrastructure at ISM Dhanbad is better than that of IIT Bhubaneswar as the former is one of the oldest elite institutes of the country. Ques. I am too confused between CSE at DTU/NSIT and IIT Jodhpur. What should I do?

Ans. I can never stop emphasizing this, no matter how many options you have always go for the one that gives you the IIT tag.  I am not saying Engineering colleges like NSIT and DTU aren’t good but they are in the developing phase while IIT Jodhpur is in its developing phase. This means it will only get better. Despite being a new IIT, its average package this year was recorded at INR 21.30 LPA, which is a great feat for a new college.  Additionally, IITs receive more funding from the government to provide better research and project opportunities. Specifically speaking about CSE, this year the highest INR 56 LPA was bagged by BTech CSE. The placement percentage stood at 97% while the average package for CSE was recorded at INR 23 LPA.  DTU and NSIT may have higher placement statistics but they lack what IIT Jodhpur offers, the most coveted IIT tag! So choose wisely.Read more

Rather, you should consider the facilities provided by the institute and your personal preferences. That being said, IIT Jodhpur is a great choice among the aforementioned institutes.  Placements: IIT Jodhpur placement scenario is like no other new IIT even giving an edge to the old IITs. IIT Jodhpur's average package is INR 17 LPA and the highest is INR 40 LPA.  Infrastructure: IIT Jodhpur has a well-developed and modern infrastructure among all IITs. In fact, its campus design won the award for best campus design and is one of the biggest campuses among all IITs spreading across more than 800 acres. Facilities: The institute boasts well-equipped labs and departments. IIT Patna has the fastest commercially available AI solution in the world, the DGX-2.  Batch size: The small batch size ensures more resources per student. The resources you cannot use at other IITs during your UG years can be easily accessed here. At IIT Patna students working on projects in AI and ML access the computers to conduct research. New branches: IIT Patna likes to keep up with the industry trends and has launched new branches like AI and Data Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Civil Engineering.  Hostel: The hostel facilities are no less and to get single AC rooms and decent food in the mess. Ans. Both IIT Patna and IIT Jodhpur are well-renowned institutions.  My brother pursued his CSE at IIT Jodhpur. According to him, you will enjoy studying CSE at IIT Jodhpur.  IIT Jodhpur has a great coding culture, ICPC, and many GSoCers. A large number of IIT Jodhpur alumni are working for Google, Microsoft, and other big organizations. IIT Jodhpur alumni are even working for Google in California. Such a strong alumni base will provide you with a lot of support and information.  The senior-junior interaction at IIT Jodhpur is also great. The seniors are very helpful and supportive. There are regular coding competitions and the coding culture is great. The permanent campus is beautiful and is 852 acres in area. Every student is provided with single accommodation rooms.
