HPNLU Review

Likes

The staff comprises of mostly post graduates and is highly learned in their own subjects.
The peers are amicable and no current reports of ragging seem to be in light
The hostel facilities are comparatively good when considered along with the hostels of most universities

Dislikes

The library is not as rich and does not hold a plethora of all the required books.
The university hours seem to be constricting to the student’s hobbies.

Admission:

I gave the CLAT exam with the aim to enter one of the national law universities. However, my utmost priority was to apply for HPNLU for it's locational benefits and for it's recommendation to me by acquaintences.

HPNLU'S KNOW HOW

Likes

The one thing i Liked is that the faculty here is good.
A lot of Moot Competitions , ADR competitions , Debates , Conferences happen . And our college has done well in that.

Dislikes

There is no playing ground. We have to travel a lot to play.
Administrartion is corrupt. A lot of protests has happened since i joined.
No Hostels within the campus. There is only one Hostel inside the campus other hostels are far from college.

Admission:

So , basically one of the main reason why I chose this college was because of the location, it creates an environment in which a student can study easily. Moreover it is the fastest growing NLU and also lots of moot court competition and ADR competition are conducted which gives exposure to students.

HPNLU - All You Need To Know !

Likes

The faculties are knowledgeable, experienced, hard-working and well-natured .The non-teaching staff is also friendly and helpful !
The location is absolutely breath-taking , making your memories beautiful and focusing on your work easier.
The university continuously hosts academic courses, moots and other competitions while various committees also conduct events.

Dislikes

The mess food requires constant supervision and the hostels besides the first years are situated at quite distanced places.
The medical facilities demand improvement and the geographical location sets quite a few limitations at times during weather crisis.
The placements and internship opportunities are currently a set-back , with time they shall improve.

Admission:

HPNLU is a associated with and is a part of the Consortium of NLUs' and thus selects students based on their ranks through the national exam conducted by the Consortium called "CLAT" (Common Law Admission Test) which one can attempt after completing their 12th grade with a min. of 45%. The cut-off was 2200-2800 for General and went upto 30,000 for NRI and SC/ST castes. There is domicile applicable to 25% of its seats. Vanacies shall arise after the counselling process is over, in case you're not allotted an university by the 5th round. The tests consisted of 150 questions which has been recently reduced to 120 questions containing the sections of GK, Maths, English, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning.

HPNLU- WHAT & HOW

Likes

The environment, the greenery, regional people are sweet and mind their own business.
The faculty is well knowledgeable, smart and is always upto date.
The non teaching staff is friendly, sweet too. We get along easily.

Dislikes

The administration is somewhat insensitive. There is no student body. Thus, there's a huge gap between what student wants and whether the administration is providing it or not.
Only few cafes and essentials shops nearby. Not much to explore within and near the college. Makes it monotonous. Poor campus life.
Poor mess food. The mess facilities could be improved to a great extent.

Admission:

I did not apply to any other college. I got this college based on my rank. I only gave Clat. I chose this because it is what I got. When I was allotted this college via tha allotment system, I chose to get feedback about it. I mostly got positive feedback for HPNLU. However, one of the senior who graduated back in 2022 asked me to choose another college due to the restrictive access this college has. I did not apply to any college as such. As soon as you're alloted HPNLU, you must submit the required fees within the required time as mentioned by the administration in the admission form. You must fill the admission form on the ERP. ERP is a section on HPNLU Website. One must fill all the necessary details asked and these shouldn't be false. These details are to be updated each year to ensure transparency. To get admission into NLUs one must pass Common Law Admission Test. The admission depends on the rank that you've secured.

Likes

Living near mountains is a real bliss. Faculty is very cooperative.

Dislikes

University does not have it's own hostels.
University is 22km away from shimla. So don't be mistaken that it's in shimla.

Admission:

University accepts admission only by CLAT. It's cutoff goes upto 2200. However one can get admission at the time of vacancies. Here around 25% is reserved for Himachal Pradesh students. Exams are analytical based and they are hard to pass.

The reality of HPNLU

Likes

The faculty is permanent , Experienced and Supportive, also they are mostly from other NLUs and eminent law colleges such as DU , Amity , etc.
Access to other NLUs and being a part of the NLU culture has made me open to more opportunities and a niche legal culture, the NLU tag is worth it when it comes to getting internships and placements.
The peace and charm this location offers is another advantage and perk which is uniquely associated with colleges of this location; hilly areas and serene views. Also having no traffic issues and healthy environment is something to be happy about.

Dislikes

The placements are very low and internship opportunities are limited.
The administration is rigid and unsupportive.
Bad quality healthcare and bad medical facilities.

Admission:

The eligibility of the course is to clear the CLAT entrance exam which offers admission to the 23 NLUs. To appear for this exam, one must score minimum 45% for general category and 40% for SC/ST in 12th standard. Hence, National law university , shimla only takes admissions based on CLAT ranking. My clat rank was 1847. And the cut-off is 1300-2800 in general category and 20000 for the reserved categories. HPNLU also offers 25% reservation for Himachal Pradesh Domicile candidates and the cut-off goes upto 8000. The cut-off for the vacant seats may go higher. The application form is available on the official website of HPNLU. The admission process is : Appear for clat exam , participate in the counselling process, as per your preference list , if you get admission in HPNLU, then you will receive an official mail, after that they will assist in admission. The process shall be free of erroes and response mechanism should be adhered. The response mechanism was not good.

HPNLU, Shimla University Review

Admission:

The admission process is governed by the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) conducted by the consortium of NLUs. Eligibility- no age limit, minimum 45% in 10+2 (General, OBC) and 40% (SC, ST) The application form is available on consortiumofnlus.ac.in and applications usually open at the beginning of the year while the exam takes place sometime around May. It contains 5 sections- GK, legal aptitude, logic, English, and elementary mathematics. The score determines your rank and thereby the university (NLU) you shall be allotted.
