Additionally, the institution recognizes the importance of supporting students financially and offers various avenues for scholarships, financial assistance, and campus employment opportunities.
Faculties are highly experienced with great knowledge and some of them have good teaching and mentorship style.
The classes are also very nice, the library is beautiful, well organized and peaceful.

Dislikes

We get information about scholarships, they are not interested in giving scholarships to poor students like us.
I disliked the lack of facilities in college sports, or music room facilities gym and all and mess is also not good
There is one almirah and one table and one bed provided in the hostel but the mess is really not good which was a problem in every college.

Not worse but not that much good also

Campus beauty and academic competition, here there is very good academic healthy competition,As a student i can feel it. Also l like infrastructure of several building from outside only.
Fest is also good, here there are major 2 fest one is aarohan and other is recs... both are too good

Dislikes

As soon as we arrived at hostel, hostel rooms were too dirty. That we payed to clean it up .
There is an issues of snakes,, in our hostel in last 1 to 1.5 month around 12 to 13 snakes have been spotted

Placement Experience:

In our college there is 82% placement. Highest placement is around of 80 Lakhs per annum by apple india. Mainly from fourth year student are get placed. Also there are some internship from second and third year

The Review of NIT-DGP according to first year.

Likes

It is huge large campus of 187 acres and got 49 NIRF ranking ,this campus is so beautiful.
There are so many clubs/society , which help us students for growing their skills.
This campus provide a good average placement of computer science students as well all stream students.

Dislikes

There are too much snakes in this campus which is very dangerous.
There is no many fest only 2-3 fest are happen per year.

Placement Experience:

From 7th semester student got placement and there is no limitation for placement. There are so many companies visited the campus, such as (amazon, microsoft, JP morgon, TCS , infosys, Oracle , and many more..) , they offer more than 700 to 800 students. The average package of CSE branch is approx 22 LPA and highest package is 82 LPA. There are 80 to 90 percent student who got placed. My plan after getting the job is to work hard and explore the world.

My Honest Review For Nit Durgapur

The infrastructure of this college is quite good than other some nits.
Its placement rate is also good that's why I have selected it.
Some faculty are quite friendly. You will get all types of clubs here for your social development.

Dislikes

Restriction on students in this college is more than other any colleges. Students of 1st semester are not allowed to go anywhere out from their without writing application leave any their parents permission.
Some faculty are too aged that they cant control their anger and put slap students.
Ragging scene in this college is very much dangerous. Their is zone system and once you in zone seniors will behave in very harsh manner with you.

Yes our college offers campus placements.Students from 4th year are eligible for campus placements.Many reputed nation and international companies like microsoft,Wipro,TCS, Infosys and many more companies offrers placement every year in this college. arrording to 2025 deta overall placement rate was 82 percent, Highest packege was 80 lpa and average packege was 12.6lpa. My only plan to get a good placements.

i got admission in mechanical engineering according to my rank in Josaa. i actually like my course and i can use the knowledge of machines to solve real world problems i suggest that here in my college engineering graphics is thought in old fashion way in an A2 paper instead of modern tools like auto CAD

Raw , rough and real

Likes

The lush green campus having beautiful scenery providing soothing and calming effect.
Vibrant fests offering much needed relaxation and break from semester.
food stalls and active holidays which I like a lot in contrast to government colleges.

Dislikes

Professors , horrible teaching with no interest
Hostel facilities not upto the mark with leakage system continously causing trouble to students.
Mess food is horrible with veg being made not at good .

Placement Experience:

Placement percentage is currently at 78 percent for the current year though it was at 85 percent previous year. Metallurgy has 93 per cent placement, Many students opting for higher studies or going for GATE. Students become eligible from fourth year though they can take internships in third year itself

The Campus is Very good, Fresh air availability.
Proper Air Conditioning in classes and good atmosphere.
Teachers are supportive and a big library with a lots of book availability

Dislikes

Slow Wifi connection in hostels approximately 15mbps.
Non availability of Air Conditioning in some labs where Air conditioning may cause no harm.
Attendance policy of the college, it should be like IIT(ISM) DHANBAD

There are good placements but the placements are not up to mark. All comanies are not highly interested in hiring Specially Civil Engineering. Company should give better offers to students of NITs also.. lower packages are not accepatable

My college has fairly decent placements, particularly for Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). Every year, well-known companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and Accenture come to campus for recruitment. There are good opportunities for students with strong technical and problem-solving skills from some product-based companies and startups. A few students get higher offers than the average package and that is also good depending on their performance and skills.

Infrastructure & Campus Environment Pretty good infrastructure: labs, classrooms are well equipped. Smart classrooms in many places.
2. Faculty / Teaching / Mentorship Many students say faculty are experienced, knowledgeable, helpful and fairly approachable. Mentorship from seniors and professors is decent in many branches.
3. Campus Life & Social Interaction Students seem to enjoy campus life: clubs, fests, cultural / technical events are active.

Dislikes

1. Curriculum & Relevance Some feel that though updates are done, many what is taught is theoretical and not always well aligned with what industry expects. The practical / project work component could be strengthened
2. Infrastructure / Maintenance Issues Some hostels (especially second year or later) have issues: cleanliness, AC / ventilation, old buildings needing renovation. Mess / food quality is often criticized.
3. Placement Variability Based on Branch Non-core branches (e.g. Civil, Biotech) are said to have fewer top offers, fewer companies coming, lower average packages.

Strengths & Weaknesses in Placement Strengths Good number of companies participate; wide variety (IT & non-IT). Strong average & top packages in popular branches (CSE, ECE, EE). Reasonable placement rate ~80-85% for many branches. Challenges / Weaknesses For less in-demand / non-IT / non-core branches, average packages are lower. (E.g. Civil, Mechanical have much lower averages in recent drives) Also, in some years (like 2024), placement rate dipped (to ~72%) perhaps due to wider economic trends. Students who have backlogs, weak intern/project experience, or who are not proactive often struggle or get fewer offers.

My journey and experience at NIT Durgapur

Honestly,I liked the environment of the campus.It is always peaceful at the evenings at particular chilling spots
Also I liked the approachibility of professors.They not only focus on classroom teaching and but also guides the students about research projects and higher education plans.
The clubs and societies are one of the biggest highlights . Whether it's coding, music or literature there is a group for almost every passion.

Dislikes

Some hostels and buildings are old and need renovation
During summers,water or electricity problems occurs occasionally in hostels.
The location of the campus is a bit away from major cities.So entertainment options and weekend hangouts are limited.

Placement Experience:

Yeah.For my branch,ECE the placements were quite good.The training and replacement cell really brings a good companies to the college in both IT and core sectors.However I can't say each and every person will get a placement.The one who didn't placed in the colleges were searching for off-campus placements and trying different suitable with their knowledge skills.

LIFE AT NIT DURGAPUR

The campus is spacious,green and peacefully for evening walks and relaxation
Professor are knowledgeable and approachable.the curriculum gives a good balance between theory and practical learning
Seniors are helpful and guide juniors during academics and fests

Dislikes

Some hostels and academic buildings need renovation
The lab equipment need to be improved for better understanding of the students
Summer are quiet hot and humid .winter is fine but short

Placement Experience:

National institute of technology Durgapur had a good placement record. Every department has its own record but The average package of computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering is nearly 12 lakhs and remaining departments had a average package of 9 to 10 lakhs as they are recently accomodated in this college

Here is a detailed review shared by my brother who completed his graduation from NIT Durgapur

Infrastructure: Honestly, the infrastructure isn’t all that great but will provide all the basic amenities necessary for a good academic environment.
Faculty: Most students have to resort to self-study because the professors are not very passionate about teaching. However, if you do good projects under a professor, you may be able to pursue a master's in a foreign university.
Placements: NIT Durgapur has recorded excellent placements. This year the highest CTC offered was INR 70 LPA while the average salary offered was INR 13.64 LPA. The top recruiters included TCS Ninja, PwC, ICICI Bank, Microsoft, and many others. More than 100 recruiters participated in the placement drive and 633 students were placed.
Opportunities: The NIT tag will open a number of opportunities for you and the alumni network is also quite extensive. You can also avail opportunities like workshops and clubs.
Campus life: The campus life is very active with many fun-filled events like the freshers' farewell party and celebration of regional festivals. Additionally, a number of cultural and technical fests are also held.
Administration : The administration is very slow and is not cooperative. You might face some issues.
Location : NIT Durgapur faces no major connectivity issues. The railway station is 30 mins or 14 km away while the nearest airport is at Andal, which isn't well connected, so Kolkata Airport will be a better option. You can find the Auto rickshaw stand just at the main gate.
