Placement Experience:

Mostly after the 6th and 7th semester, students are eligible because in BITS we have placements twice in a year. And some of the students who get an internship at the end of 3rd year may get a pre-placement offer. Wipro, Cognizant, Amazon, Oracle, Intel Corporation, Qualcomm, Apple, Flipkart, Samsung etc. The highest CTC is 45 LPA and the average LPA is 18.05 LPA as per the recent stats. 99% of the students were placed, almost all of them at a decent package. I am planning to work for an IT firm .

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am pursuing the dual degree program in BITS with MSc Physics as my first degree and EEE as my second degree. I chose physics by choice, even though I was getting MSc Maths because of my genuine interest in the subject since my school days, positive reviews on the forums, and suggestions from the seniors. The faculty-student ratio in Physics Department is about 1:4 (80 students and about 20-25 profs). In EEE, it's a bit low. The faculty is very good and semester exams are conducted very properly, with moderately difficult questions in most of the courses.

Placement Experience:

In the final year, students are eligible for the placements and most of the students who sit for placements are placed. Companies like Amazon, Adobe, Samsung, L&T info, and many more come for the placement with good offering to the students Many students in their pre-final year sit for internships and get their Pre-Placement Offer by the company so they don't need to sit for placements. Each year many students work on their startups and many students join them for that I am personally looking up to higher studies.

Placement Experience:

Students in the final year are eligible to sit for placements, i.e, the single degree students in the 4th year and dual degree students in the fifth year. A large number of companies like Amazon, Samsung, Microsoft, etc. in IT, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, etc in Finance, PSUs like BHEL, etc in the core and many other companies come for placements. The highest package is usually around 40 lakhs with the average package being 11 lakhs. The average is much higher in the IT sector, going up to 27 lakhs. The profiles offered are SDE, Products manager, Consultant, etc. depending on the field (IT, Finance, Consultancy, Core engineering). Around 75% of students sit for placements since many students opt for higher studies or other avenues. Of these most of the students get placed. After completing my degree, I plan to work in the corporate sector for at least 2-3 years and cover up my educational loan. After that, I have decided to evaluate based on my interests and the options available.

Placement Experience:

In bits placement is magic. Students get internships after completing their 2nd year. Also at the start of the 3rd year, we get great companies coming for summer internships. Bits have great alumni support. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, Samsung, etc comes every time. The highest package that I have heard of is around 50 lakhs.

From the 4th semester, you are eligible for sit-in placements. Some of the companies I remember are Miraj Group, Tata Trusts, Amazon, Flipkart, etc. If we talk about the percentage of students who got placed is around 99% who opted for placements. I got a job after completing my graduation.

Remarks:

According to my university everything fine until now.I am ongoing final year student. The only drawback is the fee,it will increase every year from the joining year. Admission process is you can apply through online, and they will allot dates, fee process and Anti-Ragging forms. After the fee payment,u will directly join the campus in between July 27-31. From August 2 onwards the classes will be going on. The reason for preferring this college is the flexibility towards the students, zero attendence. The best helping site for me QUORA.

Remarks:

The ambience as well as the exposure is relatively better than other Indian colleges. Plenty of placement opportunities as well as college faculties are highly educated. Close from my hometown. Hostel facility is A-rated. Multiple clubs to enroll into and a pool of students from all over Indian and even outside creates a diverse environment.

BITS Pilani: 2 Answered Questions

What is your review of BITS Pilani WILP?Does it consider to get lecturer job?

Shruti DasguptaStudent at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

BITS WILP is a two-year postgraduate level course, in which 15 specializations are offered by the university. It is a degree course that is completed mainly on weekends to enable students and professionals to gain a full-time degree course while continuing their professional pursuits.

Pros

  • You get associated with the BITS tag
  • You can do your PG alongside working
  • The course is rather easy and with the right dedication you can complete it in 2 yrs.
  • The syllabus is the same for both on and off-campus students

Cons

  • You won’t be able to sit for PG campus recruitment
  • Not many companies consider this degree valuable and thus makes it is difficult to land a job.
  • The admission criteria are rather flexible thus the peer pool is not very filtered.
  • Most of the subjects are from bachelors and lack relevance and rigor
  • There is no visible difference in the knowledge base of the students.
  • The classes are not conducted by the original BITS faculty.

In all, I think the cons overshadow the pros and don’t deem this course a very wise decision.

Is BITS Pilani "Pilani campus" better than IIT Roorkee or IIT Guwahati?

Tithi AggrawalLives in New Delhi

In my opinion, both BITS Pilani and IIT Roorkee are in the same league while IIT Guwahati is a bit inferior to them. Let’s discuss further on the basis of some very common aspects

  • Core subjects: BITS Pilani does not focus on core subjects and the research culture is also very inactive. This is because of the extremely laid-back curriculum and attendance policy. The research opportunities offered are very less in comparison to IITs
  • Placements: In this aspect, BITS Pilani definitely fairs better with its flagship Practice School program. Students of this program receive many PPOs from top companies during internships arranged by the college itself.
  • Campus life: IMHO BITS offers the best campus life owing to the student-driven culture and great academic flexibility.
  • Performance: The institutes can be evaluated on the basis of the performance of their students in various entrance exams. IIT Roorkee students score the best in GATE, UPSC, etc. while BITS Pilani scores well in CAT, GMAT, and GRE.
  • Peer groups: The average student quality of both the institutes is somewhat similar with IIT Roorkee giving a slight edge to BITS Pilani in this aspect.

Both the colleges have their own strengths and weaknesses and comparing them is illogical. I would say that if you are genuinely interested in CSE, then Pilani will be better for you than Roorkee. But if you aren’t certain of your area of interest then choose IIT Roorkee for its IIT tag.
