bits Pilani: pros cons and all other things

Likes

the college campus is vast and inculcates a good campus culture. the peer group at bits pilani is great and motivating , the startuo culture in bits is extrmely nurtured
they offer good additional courses such as humanities and finance electives that have good course structures and offer knowledge over arious domains
the infrastructure of the classrooms especially the new acadmeic building are upto date and modern as well as fully conditioned

Dislikes

the department especially the pharmacy department is extremely rigid and does not fully represent the academic freedom that bits advertisee
the coursework is at most times not relevant to the degree (pharmacy) we are made to do courses that have no valuable significance in our degree or our careers
the lab conditions are not upto mark we are placed in old labs with expired chemicals and basic amenities such as weighing scales or spatulas are not provided

Admission:

i got accepted in all colleges i applied to . i had applied to vit vellore for btech in biotehcnology and i had gotten the seat for it and even paid the fees for one semester , i decided not to go as i lived closer to bits pilani and from what i heard it had better campus culture and less alienation as i had heard people experience in vit other than that it also had a better brand name as compared to vit and srm( which i also applied to for biotechnology and got accepted at) srm had a fees of about 100000 whioch is significantly less than both bits and vit(approx 24 lakhs) but the brand name of srm was not as much and its campus culture did not excite me

BITS Pilani- A relevant review of Pharmacy

Likes

Exposure along with International exposure via hackathons, courses and exchange programs.
Cultural and club activities. Exposure through vast amount of clubs present on campus varying from technical to non technical backgrounds.
No attendance policy and flexibility of courses one can take up.

Dislikes

The amount of opportunities provided for pharmacy students including placements and other opportunities.
Stiff and close minded faculty in some departments.
Location of the campus (Pilani). Extreme heat and extreme cold, hostels rooms are not equipped with ACs.

Admission:

I selected this college over other colleges due to its legacy, exposure and opportunities. The freedom to traverse through multiple domains and it's flexible academics. I had applied to almost all biotech, bio engineering related colleges to get into health sector domain. I did not get rejection from any of the colleges. The admission process of my college includes an eligibility test, BITSAT, the scores of which determine admission into thsi college. I had appeared for the test in PCB subjects instead of PCM. The eligibilty is 75% in class 12. Cutoffs for my particular course was abouut 170-180 marks.

The startup culture at the campus: BITS is well known for the startups that it has produced over the years and the startup culture present at the campus plays an important role in building and helping young budding entrepreneurs.
Student Faculty interaction : The professors at the campus are quite interactive and they engage with the students and they are easily approachable . Students can easily go and ask professors to work on project under them.
Open culture : BITS has quite an open culture , there is no restrictions on hostel entry and exit time , students are quite interactive with each other . There are also many activities continously happening on the campus which engage the students.

Dislikes

Girls to boys ratio : the ratio of girls to boys in the pilani campus is approx 1 is to 7 , this number clearly shows that the number of boys and girls on the campus is not balanced
Location of Pilani campus: The BITS pilani (pilani campus ) is situated in a small town of rajasthan near the haryana border therefore there is not much to do outside the campus

Admission:

I applied to DTU and was getting admission there and I also applied to other other IITs . For admission in BITS you have to give the BITSAT exam which happens twice every year , all the branch allocations and admission into the college are done on the basis of your marks that you score in the BITSAT exam

Very enthusiastic faculty , impressive publications , some faculty are advisory members in boards liker springer publication
The exposure one gets in the college for entrepreneurial ventures as well as finance is immense , if one as an engineer wants to become a financial analyst , the steps are quite easy and set .
Zero attendance policy is very beneficial

Dislikes

Faculty can take zero attendance more into account . Though there is zero attendance policy there are surprise quizzes which get included in your grade
Living amenties are below average at the end of the day Pilani is a village and one does'nt get basic amenities like healthcare and proper food
the fees is too much for what they offer , there have been strikes but with no positive outcome

Admission:

The exposure given for finance and Entreprenurship in BITS Pilani is well over what an average engineering college might provide you . They offer a minor option using which one can sit in finance placements with companies like UBS Deutsche Bank , Jane Street and many more .The admission process for BITS includes the BITSAT exam which is an MCQ based exam . From 2023 there have been 2 attemtps of the same ,earlier there used to be only one .However one thing to keep in mind is the BITSAT exams occur right alongside the JEE Advanced examinations as well the results .I personally gave my bitsat the day my advanced results were announced

The legacy and the brand value of Bits Pilani.
Flexibility in the course like having 0 attendance policy.
More focus on explaining concepts to students rather than just remembering things (we have many open book exams)

Dislikes

College fees is too high and it increases per semester.
Hostel facilities are not up to the mark considering the money that the students are paying for it.

Admission:

I got admission into IIT Dhanbad through JEE Advance exam but chose to go to Bits Pilani because i believe that it has a better brand value and prestige. For getting admission in bits, you need to clear the Bitsat exam, where you are tested on your knowledge of high school level physics, chemistry, maths. And it also includes english and logical resoning questions.

Life at BITS Pilani: Academics, Life and more

Large and well maintained campus spread over 328 acres.
Excellent sports facilities ranging from outdoor sports: football, cricket, tennis, basketball, skating as well as indoor sports: badminton, table tennis, chess,etc.
Institute's policy of conducting Practice School helps in providing real hands on industry experience for all students which is insightful and gives and edge when appearing for placements.

Dislikes

Fees is a bit on the higher side. The institute is private and not government funded which explains the high fees.
The course curriculum is a bit outdated and has been the same for the past 10-15 years.
Girls to boys ratio is around 1:10 since the institute is merit based and has no reservations.

Admission:

I applied for other colleges like VIT, Manipal, COMEDK colleges, etc. I chose BITS over all of them as it provides a unique exposure and opportunity the others miss to provide. The institute's Practice School policy is a usp which attracts a large amount of crowd. The institute is completely reservation free and only allows admission on merit which leads to a better student crowd. You can take admission in BITS through BITSAT or directly if you're a board topper. BITSAT is the exam taken by most number of students right after JEE.

Honest BITS Pilani (Pilani Campus) Review

Academic Flexibility: dual-degree program, GPA-based branch changes, option to pursue electives from various disciplines.
Faculty and teaching quality: The faculty here is well-qualified with PhDs and research experience.
Peer Group: The peer group is smart, diverse and driven. The student-led clubs and departments form the backbone of the campus life.

Dislikes

Girls to boys ratio: The gender ratio is skewed, roughly around 1:4 or 1:5.
Pilani Location: The remote location is bit of a downside. It's far from major cities which can be inconvenient for travel or industry exposure. However, it creates a tight-knit community and lesser distractions.
Mess Food: It's manageable, but nothing to write home about. Most students prefer food from campus canteens and eateries.

Admission:

I chose BITS Pilani over other colleges due to its academic flexibilitym vibrant culture, zero reservation and merit based admission process. I had confirmed admissions from other colleges such as DTU but I opted for BITS primarily because of it Practice School program and the autonomy it offers in shaping your academic journey. The admission process is through the BITSAT exam, an online test includes Physics, Chemistry and Maths and English and Logical Reasoning. There is no reservation policy. The cutoff for top branches is usually 340+. The entire process is smooth and conducted online.

The truth About BITS Pilani

Likes

The infrastructure is good, you will get good hostel facilities
The faculties are really great with lots of experience and ready to help at all times
The placements are also really good , you can get really good opportunities

Dislikes

The curriculum is not that relevant just like all the other colleges
The hostel facilities for some hostels are really bad
Fees of BITS pilani is too high , just not affordable for some individuals

I did not get any other colleges and beacuse i did not have any choice , I had to come here, this college is good so no harm in choosing this.Admission process is quite simple , you have to go to campus for course registration and hostel allotment.

Alumni culture of BITS is arguably the best . It has it's alumni all across the globe with alums in all top tier companies which helps a lot
Ps - 1 and Ps - 2 are two internship opportunities which the college itself provides which is a great opportunity for every bitsian
Fests is bits are all student driven with oasis being the major attraction. The fests are highlighted with high profile prof shows

Dislikes

Very high fees is the only thing to dislike. Most of the students find it hard to pay.

Admission:

Bitsat is the eligibility exam for admission in BITS across all four campuses ( one in Dubai ). There are 5 to 6 iterations and the cutoff varies in all the iterations every year. I also got a call from iit roorkee but ultimately decided to join bits bcoz of the branch I got here (EEE) , a very decent branch in pilani campus.
