PRSU offers a full-time PhD program at the Doctoral level for a minimum duration of 3 years. PhD at PRSU is offered through its various schools of studies and affiliated colleges. PRSU PhD Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for PRSU PhD Admissions, candidates must meet the following conditions:

  • Master's degree/M.Phil in a relevant discipline or its equivalent with at least 55% aggregate marks from a recognised board/university
  • In case of the reserved category, a 5% relaxation is provided by the university in the required aggregate marks. 

PRSU PhD Admission Process

Admission to PhD programs at PRSU is based on scores obtained in the entrance exam followed by a personal interview conducted by the respective department. PhD entrance exam at PRSU is usually conducted in October every year. Candidates admitted through the entrance examination will be awarded the University Fellowship depending on their availability. 

Candidates who have qualified UGC-CSIR (JRF) examination, including NET lectureship/SLET/GATE/GPAT or any other JRF examination conducted by national agencies such as ICMR, ICSSR, etc are exempted from the entrance test. Candidates holding M.Phil degree from PRSU are also exempted from the entrance test provided they have been admitted through the entrance test. 

Application forms for PhD admission at PRSU are usually released in July or August every year. Aspiring candidates can collect the application form from the university campus or apply online on the official website at prsu.ac.in. How To Apply for PhD at PRSU?

Aspirants must follow the steps mentioned below to apply online for PRSU PhD program:

PRSU PhD Fees

The candidates shall have to pay the fees as decided by the university from time to time. However, PhD candidates who are teachers of the university and teachers under the U.G.C. teacher fellowship scheme or any other scheme will not be required to pay the fees, except the registration fee and six-monthly progress report fee. PRSU PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowship

There are 25 University fellowships for the students working for Ph.D. degree in PRSU School of Studies, payable as per University rule @ Rs.10000.00 per month (excluding contingency amount). Moreover, the students working for Ph.D. degree in the School of Studies (including research project work) have the facility of getting JRF/ SRF / financial assistance provided by the agencies like CSIR / ICSSR / UGC /Inspire/WOS (DST) / DAE (NBHM) / ICHR / ICPR /ICMR etc. as per rule of the respective agencies.

Ques. Which PRSU college has the most number of PhD seats?

Ans. In total, PRSU has over 105 PhD seats. Its Government D.S.V Sanskrit College has the most number of seats with a total intake of 24 students. The second highest number of seats are in Government College Gobra, Hallmark Computer Services, Art and Commerce Girls College Devendra Nagar, and Government D.B Dau Kalyan College with 12 PhD seats each. 

Ques. Can MPhil students join PhD at PRSU?

Ans. Yes, candidates who have cleared the MPhil course work with at least 55% aggregate marks or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale and are successfully completing the MPhil degree shall be eligible to proceed with research work leading to PhD degree in the same institution. Additionally, a relaxation of 5% is given to students belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled. 

Ques. Should I mandatorily complete a PhD in 3 years at PRSU?

Ans. No, PhD students don't need to complete PhD in 3 years only. Students can continue the course even for a maximum period of 6 years. PhD at PRSU is a full-time program offered in various specialisations like botany, management, law, sociology, history, economics, anthropology, linguistics, chemistry, and many more. 

Ques. Who is exempted from PhD entrance exams at PRSU?

Ans. The following candidates are exempted from the entrance exam conducted by the university:

  • Candidates, who qualify for UGC-CSIR (JRF) examination, including NET lectureship/ SLET/ GATE/ GPAT or any other JRF examination conducted by national agencies, such as ICMR, ICSSR, etc.
  • Candidate possessing M.Phil. degree from PRSU, provided that his/her admission to the M.Phil. degree has been through entrance examination.
  • Candidate possessing M.Phil. degree from other recognized university has to appear at the entrance examination, but shall be exempted from course work if Research Methodology has been a component of his/her M.Phil, degree.
  • Teacher Fellowship holder and University/ College teachers holding a regular position (regular appointment) and having completed two years of service as teacher in a department or affiliated colleges of the University.
  • Scientists of any recognized national (for example, DST-, CSIR-funded etc.) and international institutions (for example, WHO-funded etc.) having acquired two years experience.

Ques. Which candidate's name shall be canceled from the registered list for PhD degree at PRSU?

Ans. Every PhD candidate at PRSU is required to submit a record of attendance, receipt of fees paid, and progress report every six months. If two successive progress reports are found to be unsatisfactory or no reports are received for a year and the candidate fails to deposit the prescribed fee, the respective candidate's name will be cancelled from the list of those registered for PhD degree.

Ques. What is the minimum attendance requirement for PhD students at PRSU?

Ans. A PhD candidate at PRSU is required to put in at least 300 days of attendance, excluding the attendance he/she will earn during the course work in the research centre and certified by the supervisor or co-supervisor. Apart from attendance requirement, candidates possessing MPhil degree or a teacher with two-years teaching experience at the time of registration can submit their thesis after 30 months instead of 36 months.

Ques. When is a candidate asked to revise his/her thesis at PRSU?

Ans. Once the candidates submit their thesis at PRSU, it will be examined by two examiners. If both the examiners recommend revision of the thesis, the candidate shall be called to revise it. If both the examiners reject the thesis, or one of them rejects the thesis and the other recommends a revision, the thesis will be rejected. If one examiner approves the thesis and the other rejects it or recommends a revision, a third examiner will be appointed whose opinion will be final. 

Ques. Which candidates are allowed to continue their PhD course after 6 years at PRSU?

Ans. Certain categories of candidates at PRSU are allowed to continue their PhD course in case of incompletion even after a maximum period of six years. These include the women candidates and persons with disabilities (more than 40% disability). They are allowed a relaxation of one-year for MPhil and two-years for PhD out of the maximum period. 

Ques. Are women candidates given maternity leave for PhD at PRSU?

Ans. In addition to one extra year for MPhil and two extra years for PhD, women MPhil/PhD candidates of PRSU are also given maternity leave. The women MPhil and PhD candidates are provided a maternity leave or child care leave of up to 240 days once in the entire duration of MPhil or PhD.

Ques. Should I submit a soft copy of my thesis at PRSU?

Ans. Yes, the PhD students of PRSU are required to submit an electronic/softcopy of their thesis. This is mandatory for all the PhD students. After the submission of a softcopy of the thesis, the university shall submit it to the UGC within a period of 30 days after the award of degree. This will later be hosted in INFLIBNET, making it accessible to all other institutions/universities.
