Note: I have all the data needed - live GBP-INR rate (1 GBP = INR 129.19 as of 11 September 2026), verified deadlines, IELTS waivers, fees, and CD URLs. Writing the article now.

University of Surrey admissions run on a September primary intake for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with UG via UCAS and PG via the Surrey applicant portal, and the university accepts most Indian applicants who meet its Class XII or Bachelor’s degree thresholds plus its English-language requirement.

  • UCAS equal-consideration deadline for September 2027 UG entry is 14 January 2027 at 18:00 UK time (23:30 IST).
  • Base tuition for most master’s is GBP 25,900 (around INR 33.45 Lakhs) per year; the UCAS application fee is GBP 34.50 (around INR 4,457) and there is no PG application fee.
  • UG needs 85 percent CBSE or ISC in Class XII, PG needs a Bachelor’s at 55 to 65 percent, and standard IELTS is 6.5 with 6.0 in each band.
  • Third-party estimates place Surrey’s acceptance rate near 65 percent; Surrey does not publish an institutional figure.

Popular Indian-applicant tracks are MSc Data Science, MSc Business Analytics, MSc International Hotel Management, and LLB Law, and Indian students on discussion forums flag the Guildford campus, the University Block-Style teaching in Semester 2, and paid Professional Training placements as the reasons Surrey shortlists frequently. Full course lists and fee-by-course details sit on the main University of Surrey profile page.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use GBP 1 = INR 129.19, the live rate on 11 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.
Admission Status: Open. The primary September 2027 intake is live. UCAS opened on 1 September 2026 for UG, and the equal-consideration deadline is 14 January 2027, 18:00 UK time, with a UCAS fee of GBP 34.50 (around INR 4,457). Postgraduate applications for September 2027 open in October 2026 (est.) and carry no application fee. The February 2027 postgraduate intake is Closing Soon for visa students on 11 December 2026.

University of Surrey Application Deadlines for 2027 Intake

Surrey runs a large September primary intake and a smaller February postgraduate intake, per the official Surrey postgraduate application page. UCAS opened for the 2027 undergraduate cycle on 1 September 2026. Postgraduate applications go direct on the Surrey applicant portal, not through a central platform.

Surrey’s primary intake for Indian students is September 2027 — most UG and PG programs open here.

UG applies through UCAS for September 2027 entry — one GBP 34.50 (around INR 4,457) fee covers up to five choices. PG has no application fee and reviews take about 14 working days after documents land, though peak-period turnaround can slip.

University of Surrey Eligibility for Indian Students

Surrey publishes clear India-specific entry equivalences. For undergraduate courses the university reads UK A-level grades against your Class XII board, and for postgraduate it reads UK 2:1 or 2:2 classifications against your Bachelor’s aggregate.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 85 percent from CBSE or ISC (UK AAA equivalent).
  • UG competitive courses: 90 percent from CBSE or ISC (UK A*AA) for Law and Computer Science.
  • UG state boards: around 90 percent for AAA and 75 percent for BBB entry.
  • PG UK 2:1 equivalent: Indian Bachelor’s at 60 to 65 percent (depends on institution tier).
  • PG UK 2:2 equivalent: Indian Bachelor’s at 55 to 60 percent.

Class XII Maths at 40 percent (CBSE or ICSE) or 50 percent (state boards) is a floor requirement for numerate UG courses such as engineering, computing, and finance.

University of Surrey English Language Scores

Standard postgraduate entry needs IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band, per the official Surrey English requirements page. Law LLM and a few writing-heavy courses need IELTS 7.0 (6.5 each).

University of Surrey IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Surrey accepts Class XII English marks in place of a UKVI IELTS test for most UG and PG taught courses. Verified thresholds are:

  • CBSE or ISC: 70 percent or higher in Class XII English.
  • Indian state boards: 80 percent or higher in Class XII English.
  • Medium of Instruction: A Bachelor’s taught and assessed entirely in English at a recognised Indian university.

Insider note: The MOI waiver needs a signed letter from your college registrar on institutional letterhead — request it during your final semester, not after graduation.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Surrey international applicants page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Surrey PG Programs and English Score Requirements

Surrey’s postgraduate taught catalogue skews toward computing, business, hospitality, and law. Base tuition sits at GBP 25,900 (around INR 33.45 Lakhs) for most one-year masters, with hospitality at GBP 19,900 (around INR 25.71 Lakhs) and data-heavy courses slightly higher. Full course-wise numbers are on the Surrey course-wise fees breakdown.

MSc Data Science tuition is GBP 26,500 (around INR 34.24 Lakhs) per year, which is above the standard PG base. Hotel Management sits below at GBP 19,900 (around INR 25.71 Lakhs) because it runs through the Surrey Business School’s specialist hospitality track.

Planning note: Surrey publishes English-band levels on the requirements page, and the level attached to your course is fixed — a 6.0 IELTS overall will fail a course listing 6.5.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official University of Surrey international applicants page for your chosen program before applying.

University of Surrey UG Programs for Indian Students

Surrey’s undergraduate portfolio is UCAS-only for 2027 entry, and Indian applicants file through the standard UCAS route using Surrey’s UCAS code S85. UG tuition for international students starts at around GBP 22,000 per year and rises for lab-based engineering and computing courses.

Most Surrey UG degrees run as three-year courses with an optional Professional Training Year in industry, taking total study to four years. Indian applicants can convert to the four-year variant after Year 2 without a fresh application.

University of Surrey MBA Admissions

Surrey Business School’s MBA is a 12-month full-time programme for candidates targeting general management roles. It is a smaller cohort than dedicated MBA schools, and Surrey looks harder at work experience than at test scores.

University of Surrey MBA Entry Requirements

  • Academic floor: UK 2:2 Bachelor’s or Indian equivalent (roughly 55 to 60 percent).
  • Work experience: Minimum three years post-graduation, managerial preference.
  • English: IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band.
  • GMAT or GRE: Not required; strong CV and personal statement carry the file.
  • Interview: Shortlisted candidates sit a virtual interview with the MBA director.

Candidates without a Bachelor’s degree can still apply if they carry substantial senior-management experience — Surrey treats it as an equivalent-experience route.

University of Surrey MBA Fees and Structure

MBA base tuition for 2026 entry is GBP 26,900 (around INR 34.75 Lakhs). The programme mixes core management modules with a live consulting project. Applications for July 2026 closed on 15 July 2026 (Closed); the next intake follows the September cycle.

Reality check: Surrey’s MBA is best for mid-career Indian managers who want a UK credential without stepping away for two years — it will not compete head-on with LBS or Oxford Said on brand pull.

University of Surrey PhD Admissions

Surrey runs research-degree intakes four times a year across January, April, July, and October. Doctoral applications route through the same Surrey applicant portal as PG taught, but the file also needs a research proposal aligned to a supervisor.

University of Surrey PhD Application Path

  • Identify a research group and prospective supervisor on the faculty pages.
  • Email the supervisor with a one-page proposal before you file the formal application.
  • Submit through the applicant portal with two references and full transcripts.
  • Faculty interviews take place virtually for Indian candidates.

University of Surrey PhD Funding and Fees

Overseas PhD tuition varies by faculty, per the official Surrey PhD fees page for 2027 entry:

  • STEM PhDs: GBP 28,300 to 29,400 (around INR 36.56 Lakhs to INR 37.98 Lakhs) per year.
  • Health Sciences: GBP 24,900 to 25,900 (around INR 32.17 Lakhs to INR 33.45 Lakhs).
  • Business PhDs: GBP 22,700 to 23,600 (around INR 29.33 Lakhs to INR 30.49 Lakhs).
  • Arts, Humanities, and Law: GBP 21,800 to 22,700 (around INR 28.16 Lakhs to INR 29.33 Lakhs).

The upcoming January 2027 PhD deadline is 11 October 2026 — under one month away for Indian applicants who need visa turnaround. April 2027 (deadline 17 January 2027) is the more realistic window for late deciders.

Planning note: Surrey lists PhD studentships and UKRI-linked funding on individual faculty pages rather than a central board — check the school’s research page directly for stipend detail tied to the 2026-27 academic year.

University of Surrey Application Process for Indian Students

Surrey splits its application flow by level. UG goes via UCAS (a UK-wide central admissions service that lets applicants submit one file to up to five universities). PG Taught, MBA, and PhD go direct through the Surrey applicant portal — no central platform sits in between.

  1. For UG, register on UCAS — the cycle opened 1 September 2026, and the equal-consideration deadline is 14 January 2027.
  2. Pay the UCAS application fee of GBP 34.50 (around INR 4,457), which covers up to five choices; PG applicants pay no application fee to Surrey.
  3. For PG, create an account on the Surrey applicant portal and pick your course code.
  4. Upload signed and stamped transcripts, degree certificates or predicted-marks letter, English proof, and passport bio-page.
  5. Enter two referees’ work emails; Surrey pulls references directly from them.
  6. Write your personal statement or research proposal — PG taught asks for 500 to 800 words tied to the course.
  7. Submit, then track the file on the portal; decisions typically arrive within 14 working days.

See the UCAS application guide for a step-by-step walkthrough of the UG route. Once you hold a conditional offer, meet the conditions, pay the tuition deposit, and Surrey issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) — a UKVI document you need for the visa application.

University of Surrey Admission Decisions Timeline

  • Decision window: 14 working days for PG, longer for UG through UCAS (rolling till January).
  • Offer acceptance: Firm or insurance choice through UCAS by early May 2027 for UG; PG offers usually give 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Tuition deposit: Non-refundable, due before CAS release.
  • Deferral: Available on request to the next intake if visa or personal issues arise.

University of Surrey Documents Required for Indian Applicants

Documents are the checklist that gets your file moved from "received" to "under review". Surrey wants scans that are legible, signed by the issuing institution, and translated where the original is not in English.

  • Passport bio-page: Valid for at least the length of the course plus six months.
  • Class XII marksheet: Signed and stamped by the board (UG only).
  • Bachelor’s transcripts: All semesters, plus provisional or final degree certificate (PG only).
  • Personal statement: 500 to 800 words linking your background to the course.
  • Two references: Academic for freshers; one academic and one professional for MBA and PhD.
  • CV or resume: Mandatory for MBA and PhD, optional but useful for MSc.
  • English test report: IELTS or TOEFL scorecard, or the MOI letter if using the waiver.
  • Research proposal: 1,000 to 2,000 words for PhD applicants.
  • Work-experience letters: On company letterhead for MBA candidates.

Financial proof is not required at application; Surrey asks for it only after offer, before CAS release for the visa file.

University of Surrey Acceptance Rate

The University of Surrey does not publish an official institution-wide acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place it at roughly 65 percent, based on competitive-intake program patterns and reported UCAS offer-to-application ratios.

University of Surrey Course Selectivity Patterns

Selectivity is course-specific rather than uniform across the university. High-demand courses run tighter cohorts, and hospitality-adjacent tracks are more open.

  • Tighter: LLB Law, MSc Data Science, MSc Business Analytics, and Computer Science.
  • Moderate: Most MSc taught programmes and BSc Business Management.
  • More open: MSc International Hotel Management, MSc International Tourism, and MA courses.

University of Surrey Ranking Signal for Selectivity

Surrey’s QS World rank of 246 for 2027 and its top-12 place in the Complete University Guide 2025 give it a strong mid-tier ranking band — see the full ranking picture on the Surrey ranking band page. The Hospitality subject rank of world #1 raises the bar for hospitality applicants.

Insider note: Indian applicants with a 65 percent Bachelor’s from a Tier-1 college and clean English proof land offers reliably at Surrey — the file rarely stalls if academic aggregates match the course line.

UK Student Visa Process for University of Surrey

Indian students study at Surrey on the UK Student Route visa (formerly Tier 4). Surrey’s CAS letter is the trigger document — you cannot apply for the visa until the university issues one after you meet all offer conditions and pay the tuition deposit.

The steps run in this order:

  • Receive CAS: Issued by Surrey via email after deposit confirmation.
  • Fill the online Student visa form: On gov.uk, pay the visa fee of around GBP 524 (around INR 67,696).
  • Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): A required NHS-access fee of GBP 776 (around INR 1,00,251) per year of study.
  • Biometrics and interview: Book a VFS Global appointment in India — decisions in 3 weeks for most files.
  • Financial proof: Show 28 days of maintenance funds — first-year tuition plus GBP 1,483 (around INR 1,91,589) per month for up to 9 months living costs.

2026 update: UKVI now runs stricter credibility interviews for South Asian applicants — rehearse your course choice, funding source, and post-study intent before you file.

University of Surrey Application Tips and Checklist

The following steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Surrey and cover the pinch-points in the timeline rather than the paperwork already listed above.

  • Start UCAS by early December: Reference chase takes 2 to 3 weeks; leaving it to January is risky.
  • Request transcripts 8 weeks before deadline: Indian universities often need repeat trips.
  • Book IELTS or PTE by October: Result validation takes up to 21 days at UKVI centres.
  • Line up MOI letter early: Only your registrar can issue it; final-semester students should not wait.
  • Apply for February intake by early October: Visa students hit the 11 December cut-off comfortably.
  • Pay the deposit within 30 days of offer: Delayed deposits push CAS release into peak visa season.
  • Track the applicant portal weekly: Surrey posts decisions and conditions there, not by email alone.
  • Schedule biometrics 6 weeks before travel: VFS slots in Delhi and Mumbai fill fast between June and August.

Surrey admissions are steady and rules-based — Indian applicants who file complete files against a matched course line rarely get rejected, and the deadline discipline above is what separates offer-holders from waitlist candidates.

  • I got the early payment discount, for around 2000GBP reduced form the total. This is for students who pay the deposit within a short period after getting the offer.
  • There are other scholarships like the International Excellence Award which is merit-based, it gives 5000 tuition fee waiver and a GREAT scholarship for Indian applicant, with a minimum waiver of 10000 GBP

  • Yes, I received a £1000 scholarship for my course.
  • It was an Indian Bachelor Student Scholarship, the eligibility criteria was a Bachelor degree in B.E. or B. Tech. with a CGPA of 7 or more.
  • Some of my batchmates had taken student loans for their fees. Many others received the scholarship that I received, as well. On average, I am not sure about the exact number of students receiving a scholarship.

  • Yes. I had 7000GBP sponsorship. 5000GBP for the international student award and 2000GBP from the agent.
  • The only eligibility criterion was being an international student. The college and the agent chose who to give this sponsorship to. I was considered based on my previous work experience.
  • A few of my batchmates received 5000GBP, but I do not remember anybody receiving another 2000GBP.

  • I got the academic excellence scholarship. There were two scholarships, one of 2k and one of 5k and 50 per percent of students got scholarships based on their past academic achievements and extracurricular activities.
  • I think work experience also helped in my case. I believe it all depends on how you write your proposal and how you describe yourself.
