Course Curriculum

8

  • My course was moderately difficult. It was more practical than theoretical, as I have learnt a lot about investing and accounting policies. The most positive thing was all the classes were recorded and the most negative one was sometimes classes got cancelled.

Admission Experience

  • I applied for the following universities:
    • University of Surrey: Admitted
    • University of Bristol: Waitlisted
    • University of Stirling: Shortlisted
    • University of Hertfordshire: Shortlisted
  • I have chosen these colleges based on the fees and rankings and also, the University of Surrey was close to London, which helped me get part-time jobs as well. Moreover, I was dedicated towards accounting and Finance only and the modules that I was looking for was present in my university.
  • I chose the University of Surrey based on Rankings and the availability of my course, also the location, as it is near London. The admissions process was lengthy but not complicated, as once I applied, I got my conditional offer letter with conditions such as as;IELTS few other documents and the entry score that I needed, which was a 6.5 band overall. Other than IELTS I had to prove the completion of my bachelor’s with the help of transcripts as I applied for a master’s degree. Other than these, I believe the application wasn’t tough. Once I received my Unconditional offer letter after IELTS , I applied for CAS which I received within a week, and hence I applied for my visa, and fortunately, within 15 days, I got my visa.
  • I took the winter intake which was not the main intake but I was quite in a hurry, as I had already left my job. However, I believe the September Intake is the best, as it is the main Intake in the UK so one will get a lot more job opportunities there. For me it took me 4-5 months from applying to the university till getting my visa. It involves applying for the university, preparing for IELTS and getting my documents ready, etc.

Class Schedule

8

  • Typically three classes a day. It can be any time between 9 AM and 6 PM. On average, my class had 40 students. 30 percent of them were Indian.

Faculty

6

  • The faculty to Student ratio was good, as we never faced problems because for that but I can’t put it in numbers.
  • Most of the teaching methods include one theory class and one seminar class regarding the same, which helped us understand the concepts in an easier way. We have people to help us get a job but I didn’t get any real help, to be honest. But yeah, there were people who helped us to improve linkedin and all.

Campus Life

10

  • My university has only one campus for now. We had a library and a lot of study spaces and common rooms, along with sports facilities with swimming pools, etc. We also had labs and other facilities for different fields, such as mechanical and electrical and for astronomy as well.
  • For me, we had a trading room, an investment campus and many more. We used to have a lot of events, such as sports, fairs, religious festivals, etc.

Part Time Jobs

  • I have no idea about TA, RA or DA positions, as those are solely for PHD students but off campus we have few job opportunities, such as in supermarkets or restaurants or different companies where you can work 20 hours a week during your course, and the pay rate is now a minimum of 12.21 per hour.
  • It depends on the student but it is not that tough to get a part-time job once you are flexible and hard-working. Luck is also an important factor.
  • Most Indians used to work either in supermarkets or in restaurants, as they are flexible and in restaurants one can work in the evening so they can finish their classes easily but one has to apply every day for it. And most importantly, connecting with people helps a lot and in my case, it helped me a lot. But for me It was not tough to get a part-time job.

Placement

4

  • The full-time job opportunities are not great here with inflation and all but again, one has to generate skills with the course to get the job it is not easy but the proper way, it is not impossible.
  • I believe very few got jobs, as it is only two months since I completed my study and I am still trying to get a job. I have seen few of my friends get jobs in companies mostly start-ups or a few MNCs such as Natwest.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • It was on-campus accommodation. I found it on their website only and it was cheaper than private. The monthly rent was 450 pounds. We got a personal room and shared a bathroom and kitchen. I would say for my university.
  • On-campus accommodation was cheaper than private but in London it’s the opposite. So I would say it is reliable as well, but in private you might face some fraud sometimes

Exams

  • Only IELTS or TOEFL was needed in my case. In terms of documentation, I was needed with all my personal documents, including the proof of all my past studies and work experience, along with an SOP, two LORs (both from my ex-company and bachelor’s college), and a CV as well. Fortunately, I haven’t had any interviews from my university but there might be some interview if your documents aren’t clear or If they don’t get their answers.

Fees

  • My total tuition fees were 22000 pounds and I got 5000 pounds in scholarships so I had to pay 17000 pounds in tuition fees in two installments. My rent was 450 pounds per month, which I paid in 4 installments over the year of my study.
  • For the rent, my university was quite flexible and they did communicate with a lot of my friends regarding their financial situation and how they could help.

Scholarship

  • I got the academic excellence scholarship. There were two scholarships, one of 2k and one of 5k and 50 per percent of students got scholarships based on their past academic achievements and extracurricular activities.
  • I think work experience also helped in my case. I believe it all depends on how you write your proposal and how you describe yourself.
