Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum here is very comprehensive and is made in a manner that aligns with industry requirements (specifically talking about my course), also one of the highlights for this is the unique Practice School program that is present only in Bits Pilani campuses, which is a great way of gaining exposure as well as hands on experience of the work you will be doing after graduation. The curriculum also tries to connect the theory learnt in the class to the practical application with the help of labs that are present in majority of courses, while curriculum is pretty decent it still has room for improvement as technologies such as AI are emerging right now which will benefit students to learn in a more efficient manner. The exams as mentioned are conducted twice one in the middle of the semester (midsems) and one at the end (endsems) both being important to obtain a good grade , they are accompanied with continuous evaluations to incentivise regular learning.

Internships Opportunities

4

The summer internship program is one of the important intership programs and usually comprises of companies such as NVIDIA, google, microsoft, uber, meesho, flipkart etc. though it usually more oriented for IT and Electronics roles a few companies like mercedes, bmw also come for SI. Projects under different department professors are usually considered and the skills the student has are some important factors to secure a good internship.

Placement Experience

4

Placement here are going on pretty well considering the recession that hit the market in recent years, student become eligible for placements from the first sem of their final year , typically 7th semester for single degree students (BE) and 9th semester for dual degree students (Msc+BE),as per the recent cycle around 310+ companies including Google, MIcrosoft,Goldman sachs etc. had visited campus with offer majorly ranging from 18 to 27 lpa , the highest package last cycle (domestic) was for 65lpa and average aroun 21 lpa. The perecentage of students getting placed is above 80% and remaining usually go on for pursuing masters or already have a PPO from the Practice School Internship.I personally will be sitting for placements in my last year and will be hoping to land a good offer.

Fees and Financial Aid

Right now at our campus the fee which we pay sem wise is close to 3-3.5 lakh, tution is around 2.8lakh and other all fees included the total reaches 3+ lakh , there no management or reservation quote , selection is purely merit based. The fees doesnt change branch wise but there is a provision for scholarship to merit students basically thr top 1,2% giving them 100% and 80% scholarship respectively. If your family is not financially very well i.e. annual income less than 15lpa then you can apply for merit cum need scholarship which again has 100%,50%,25%,10% according to your performance.

Campus Life

5

Campus life in my opinion is also one of the highlights of the college, There are majorly three fests spread across the academic year which are ATMOS (technical fest) , PEARL (Cultural fest) and ARENA (sports fest) , these are the major annual fest with ATMOS being held in first sem of the year around first week of november and PEARL and ARENA are there in second sem which are in first week of april and february respectively , although from this year the administration has decided to exhcange the dates of PEARL and ARENA so we will get to know about it later. We have access to a huge range of books (around 5k+) in our huge library which is also a very calm and soothing place to study, its also kept upto date with magazines , research papers published by college and daily newspapers. All the classrooms are well ventilated along with ACs considering the summer seasons , with some lecture halls having capacity of upto 400-450 students at once. Sports again is given good importance with a sports complex named Student Activity Centre (SAC) open to all the students which has the Gym facilities and all the indoor sports and is surrounded by Tennis, Basketball courts and a huge football ground as well as a cricket ground besides the Swimming pool. Also we have a Hockey ground in the centre of campus. There are a lot of clubs and departments each with their own objectives , like Art club/department takes care of all the art going on around the campus etc.

Hostel Facilities

4

In the first year you have to share your room with one other person (randomly alloted) , you have an option in second year and third year onwards you have to compulsarily stay in a single room. All the rooms have one fan, lights, cupboard, shelfs , two sockets, a study table, a bed, lan conection and whitebaord. All hostel have commom mess, on our campus we have 2 mess for now , which are to be registered for every month on the mess portal. The quality of food is average but better considering its mess food. The registeration for hostel takes place at the end of the year (second sem) and the hostel + mess cost is 50,000 rs per sem.You cannnot rent flat or pg as a BE student, you have to stay in the on campus hostels.

Admission

I personally didnt perform great in jee mains but got a decent score in jee adv which gave me options to a few iits as well as i had some top state colleges as my backup , but Bits was my best choice given the branch and college reputation and overall exposure that i would be gaining.I did get rejection from 2 iits in the branches i was expecting myself to get into but third option was bits which i got . The admission process starts approximately 2 weeks after 2nd attempt of bitsat where you are supposed to fill out a form that asks for information about you as well as your preferences of branches you wish to get into , then the rounds begin which show the alloted branch and then by 4th round you get called to college for completing up the remaining process for confirming your admission. Eligibility is the you should have passes std 12th with 75% aggregate in PCM and individual scores for PCM should be more than 60% in std 12th, only single droppers are allowed to write the exam provided they have met the eligibilty in their year of passing 12th.

Faculty

5

The faculty to student ratio is quite decent , i dont have a number right now but for my department every course has 3-4 lecturers , which are all phd holders in their respective areas of research , almost all are approachable and supportive in academic as well as non academic aspects, I cant name the faculties here due to privacy reasons but i really liked my Mechanics of solids course prof and Fluid mechanics course prof both being very supportive throughout the sem. There isnt any faculty i didnt like because each one is masters in their own way but there are some faculties whose teaching manner didnt align with way i learn which is totally normal. We have two major exams across the Sem which are Mid semester exams and End semester exams (called as Comprehensive exams), naturally the endsems carry more weightage in comparison to midsem but there are also different continuous evaluations spread across the semester , which vary from course to course. The course curriculum is difficult but upto industry standards and people who fail exams are very very less , almost negligible.

Night Life

5

The nightlife in the campus is very happening specially due to presence of Night canteens and outlets which are open until 4 in the morning, also students love to go on walks around the campus at Night due to the calm at the hour, gyms and library close around 11pm , but libraries are made open till 6am during exam days. There is no Hostel in time at all , you can freely roam around the campus although freshers do have intime for first 20 days till 11 pm but later on its relieved and campus gate is closed at 11pm thought you can come at any hour if you are coming back from home or outside the city. The famous places are the rock garden , dominos, the night canteen and outside the campus is a breakfast spot named Taaza that is quite one of the favourites. Safety is not at all the issue in the campus as outsiders are not allowed after 10 pm.

From 4th year 1st semester, the students become eligible for campus placements. About 10-15 companies visited our college with minimum 3 lpa. And only 30% of students are placed in the campus placement. Companies like virtuza, movate, cognizant, hcl visited our campus for placement. The highest package was 4.5 lpa and lowest was 2.8 . My plans after getting degree is work in a reputed mnc.
