What Students Say
Likes
- What I love the most about this college is first of all the CAMPUS! It is one of the prettiest in south campus!
- The proffessors are very professional, especially the English department proffessors are the best and pretty chill. They understand our trends, not your typical school teacher!
- The societies are very active and cover almost every field. The society events are very fun and interesting, helps us to have a little break from academics.
Dislikes
- Time gaps between classes are too much sometimes, which is really annoying. Sometimes 2-3 hours. The students who come from far away cities face a lot of difficulties because of this.
Course Curriculum Overview
In terms of assessment, the course follows a semester based system with a combination of internal assessments and end semester exams. Regular assignments and assessments help us strengthen conceptual clarity. End semester exams are usually held twice a year, and can be slightly challenging. There is scope for improvement in the curriculum. More case studies, industry exposure, project based learning needs to be brought in the classes.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee for Jesus and Mary College used to be ?22000 earlier till 2024 but since 2025 they have increased their fee to ?25000, what surprised me was that it includes the electricity bill of the college which is a little weird. Other than this there are scholarships available that reward academic excellence and fee concessions for students in genuine financial need.
Campus Life
EVERY DAY in JMC is fun, especially during the second half of the year! We get Navaratri celebrations, Diwali fest called "SPARSH", Winter Chimes and other departmental fests! The societies are very active here. The annual fest "MONTAGE" is not as good as the north campus fests but when with right people it gets super fun! JMC focuses a lot on extra-curricular activities including dance, sports and singing. We are currently also raising a petition for a fashion society and hopefully by next year we will have one!
Admission
My goal was Delhi university and Benaras Hindu University from the starting. I got Political science in BHU but the college was not to my liking plus I thought moving to Delhi will provide me greater exposure. In the first list of my CUET results I first got Dayal Singh college but I didn't freeze my list just yet. I wanted a better college so I waited until the 3rd list and finally got Jesus and Mary college. Students who belong to any category must fill the quota category in the form, it helps a lot.
Faculty
JMC has a strong academic enviornment. Most of the faculties are very experienced, especially in honours courses. The English faculty is very chill and professional at the same time. They are open to doubts, approachable and encouraging. One of the best part is that we get special tutorial sessions to clear our doubts and interact personally with the professors. Some provide us with PYQs as well when asked. I think Political Science department could improve a bit since I had my general elective classes for 2 semesters with 2 Political Science professors and both the times they seemed a bit distant. The exams are mediocre level most of the times, some papers that include complex matters can be a bit difficult.
Night Life
The sad part is that JMC does not have a hostel. So mostly the outstation students choose to live in PGs. The closest place to find PGs is Satya Niketan. Even though the place is a little unhygienic. The best place to hangout in JMC is definitely the L-park (named because it is literally in an L shape) it is a beautiful place to chill when there is a long gap between classes.
