What Students Say
Likes
- Discipline. Class timings, Schedules, Exams are all very disciplined.
- Cleanliness. Next to Godliness. The college campus and classrooms and washrooms(mostly) are very neat and clean.
- Course: The course is well structures throughout the years.
Dislikes
- Attendance is a stiffling issue. Recently there has been some leniency. But even in my first year things were pretty stiff.
- Some faculty are NOT at all upto the mark. They come to the class, read slides/notes and leave.
- Stiffling and discriminatory dress codes. Unnecessary regulations for boys. No round necks allowed for boys only.
Course Curriculum Overview
The Minor choice makes the course very relevant to industry and academia aloke. My course is called BSc. In Physics along with Computer Science. I like it very much. A comprehensive knowledge of CS is , I believe , essential in the modern world. The physics principles, the CS applications, I have researched open doors tomoots of diverse fields. That's the reason why I chose this. The flexibility the curriculum offers later on.
Internships Opportunities
There are lots of them. Some are paid even. I cannot name companies right now. But there are many private organizations, NGOs who give internship opportunities to us students. Majority of them are towards BCom and BMS students. But many of them are open to All Students. So if you wanna grab an opportunity then there will be no crisis of the same. Also the fact that I like the most is that companies offer internships in various domains. What's that? Some may offer internship opportunities in content writing, others in CS related fields, others in finance related fields etc. etc. So again lots of chance to explore. I personally haven't done any internships. I passed on all the opportunities that have come through my first year and third sem as of now.
Fees and Financial Aid
The complete fees for the course is NOT available anywhere. The fees paid upto semester 3 is around 90,000, spread across three semesters. Each semester there can be 10% increment. You have to pay semester fees each semester. Understand that the fees are not the same for all. It depends on your Minor(Pass) subjects too.
Campus Life
Xavotsav, Spectrum(Physics Dept. Flagship Program), Epsilon Delta(Stat Dept.), MTIM(Microbio dept.) make college life much romantic and enjoyable. Apart from these are numerous events of BLS(Bengali Literary Society), HLS, and other societies. Joining these societies give you a family of some sort - individual experiences may vary though. You pr door to networking opens three folds. There's lots of opportunities to enjoy yourself thee question is whether you can balance academic demands with these.
Admission
I didn't apply for any other college than this. I applied to some universities like IISER and NISER and JU. Couldn't make it to a GOOD IISER, not NISER. Secured IISER TPT and BPR. SXC is much more reputable than these. So chose SXC. Cleared JU entrance test but didn't go over there due to personal reservations regarding the institutions SXC and JU.
Faculty
The faculty is pretty much approachable but not always useful. They try hard but sometimes miss the mark. They simply read out from notes and slides. Some others put in genuine efforts. Exams and marking schemes are fair and square. The good thing is no faculty gives questions outside their notes. They mark appropriately. There are broadly two exams per semester. One mid term and one Semester Exam. The difficulty depends on subjects and how well you are upto date with class notes. As I said nothing beyond class notes.
Night Life
Never been there at night so can't comment.???? But I hear it's very disciplined and NIGHT LIFE as such does not exist. Maybe you can stay a little late after classes. Evening classes also. But typical hip and happening night life happens I guess during Xavotsav only. I'm not too sure.
