What Students Say
Likes
- Beautiful, spacious campus with greenery Students often mention the campus is large, lush with plants, trees and well-maintained gardens.
- well-furnished and functional. The library is praised for its collection, environment, usefulness. Sports facilities are good; there’s a strong sports complex that students enjoy.
- Students appreciate the cultural and technical fests — Moksha (cultural) and Aayam (technical) are especially popular. There are many clubs (technical, cultural) giving opportunities beyond academics.
Dislikes
- Being located in Tripura, it's seen as relatively remote; travelling to/from is harder or more costly. Poor connectivity to major industrial hubs, which reduces chances of industrial visits/internships sometimes.
- Hot and humid weather for a large part of the year is uncomfortable. Some concern about air quality, or general environmental upkeep (dust, “jungle” overgrowth, etc.) in parts of the campus.
- WiFi / internet service in hostels is weak or unreliable. Limited daily data caps (e.g. ~2 GB/day) are considered insufficient for many students’ needs.
Course Curriculum Overview
Core fundamentals are well covered Many students say that foundational topics (mathematics, basic sciences, core theory in their branches) are included and taught relatively well. These give a strong base. Regular updates & electives The curriculum is said to include elective courses, so students can specialize or pick interest areas. Also, projects, labs, assignments which reflect recent trends are part of the syllabus.
Internships Opportunities
At NIT Agartala, internship opportunities are there but not always very structured like in some top IITs. A lot depends on the student’s own effort. Some companies do come for summer internships through campus, especially in core branches and IT-related roles, but the number is limited. Most of us try to arrange internships on our own by applying through portals like Internshala, LinkedIn, or by contacting professors and alumni. The good thing is that the institute’s name — being an NIT — helps a lot in getting responses from companies. Also, some professors guide us in getting research internships at IITs or abroad through contacts.
Placement Experience
Placements in NIT Agartala are actually decent, especially for the top branches like CSE, IT, ECE, Mechanical, and Electrical. Every year many companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, L&T, Capgemini, Deloitte, Microsoft, etc. visit the campus. The average package is around 7–8 LPA for CSE/ECE, while core branches get slightly lower, and the highest goes up to 40+ LPA in some years. For other branches like Civil, Chemical, and Production, the placements are a bit lower, but students still manage through campus plus off-campus drives. What I like is that the placement cell is active, and we also get internship opportunities in our 3rd year which help us prepare.
Fees and Financial Aid
For the each semester we have to pay 6k for the students who have reservations and scholarship is available for the category wise Fee will increase and decrease by the semester wise and hstl fee and mess fee will be around 29-30k
Campus Life
My overall experience with campus life at NIT Agartala has been really memorable. The campus is very green and spacious, which makes it a good environment to live and study in. On the social side, hostel life is the best part — we bond a lot with friends, celebrate festivals together, and there’s always some activity going on that keeps the energy alive. I’ve also been involved in different clubs and societies, like cultural clubs, technical clubs, and sports. The college has big annual fests — Moksha (cultural) and Aayam (technical) — where you really get to see the talent and energy of the students. These events gave me a chance to work in teams, handle responsibilities, and also enjoy a lot. In terms of infrastructure, we have decent classrooms, labs, a big library, sports grounds, and hostels. Some areas could definitely improve, like Wi-Fi in hostels and mess food, but overall the facilities are good enough to support both academics and extracurriculars.
Hostel Facilities
stay in the hostel at NIT Agartala, and overall, the facility is decent. The rooms are spacious enough for two people, with basic furniture like a bed, study table, and cupboard. The hostel buildings are quite old in some cases, but they are functional. The best part is the bonding and fun with hostel friends — late-night talks, group studies, and celebrations really make it feel like home. The mess food is average, sometimes good and sometimes not, but manageable. Wi-Fi and water supply are there, though sometimes we face connectivity issues. Washrooms and cleanliness can definitely improve, but most of us adjust. There are also sports areas and common rooms where we hang out.
Admission
Honestly, I chose NIT Agartala mainly because it’s one of the prestigious NITs of India, and being in an NIT itself carries good recognition, both for placements and further studies. When I was applying, I had options of a few state government/private engineering colleges. I compared them on different parameters: Reputation & Ranking: NIT Agartala, even though it’s not in the top 5 NITs, is still way ahead of most private colleges in terms of recognition and national ranking. Placements: The placement statistics here are stronger, especially in CSE, ECE, Mechanical etc., compared to private colleges I had applied to where the average packages were lower. Campus Life & Opportunities: The campus is huge and has its own cultural and technical fests, clubs, and activities, which private colleges nearby didn’t really offer at that scale.
Faculty
Faculty are helpful / approachable, especially outside class: students often say they can meet them with doubts and get guidance. Some say teaching is “knowledgeable”, and that professors try to keep the curriculum relevant (i.e. aligned with industry expectations) or updated.
Interview Experience
No, I didn’t face any Group Discussion, Interview, or Written Test for the admission. The entire admission process for NIT Agartala was based on my JEE Mains rank followed by JoSAA counselling. Night Life
The nightlife in and around NIT Agartala is pretty quiet compared to big city colleges. Since the campus is a bit away from the city, most of the time nightlife means chilling with friends in the hostel, late-night canteen runs, or group study sessions. We also sit around in hostel common areas, play music, or just have fun conversations till late. Outside the campus, Agartala city does have some cafés and spots, but we usually prefer to hang out within the campus because it feels safe and comfortable. Honestly, the best part of nightlife here is the bonding with friends and those memories you create during late-night talks and laughter.
