Course Curriculum Overview

4

Mechanical engineering has been the most interesting and very formal subject from the starting of engineering schools. Also, my interest for automobiles, automoblie industries and mechanical subjects is the driving factor for me to opt this course. But, as the subjects has evolved, so not the curriculum. Core mechanics subjects like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mechatronics comes in 2 nd and third year of curriculum which is very late. No changes in subjects and curriculum according to real industry. The curriculum is not up-to-date which rather waste the time of student inistead of learning new skills and skiils which are required in the market. Also the exams in the our college, has been the same like every other colleges. Viva, course projects , industry projects, and written exams. Curriculum needs a mojor boost like it need to add new subjects through which we can learn skills to be industry ready, in addition with the core subjects. Moving on to topic of exams, and overall the exams are easy to crack and the difficulty is medium. The good part of exams is that every subjects has its own course projects which require every set of skills. There are 4 course projects and 1 industry projects which require a lot of skills and in the process we learn many software likes solidworks ansys and cutocad like softwares.

Internships Opportunities

4

Many companies like barclays, nvidia, jpmorgan, citi bank, ansys, mastercard, bmc, general mills, optic.ai , duetsche, tata motors, tech motors, mercedes, forbes marshall regal rexford, has been offering internships and placements to students every year. Basically nvdia and barclays offer internships with stipend 80000 and 75000 repectively. Internships period is for 2 months and can be extended upto 6 months. Generally companies offer ppo on basis of you skiils and work done in interenships. Tpo notifies the students and carry out entire procees. Basically eligiblity criteria is cgpa . For cs , it students minimun cgpa required is 9 cgpa for top companies other wise 8.5 is fine. For mech students cgpa criteria is 7. Minimum percentage required in 12 is 80%.

Campus Life

4

Basically, the strength of students has always been a problem in vit and it does reflect during annual fests. Basically there are fests like Vishwakarandak, Vishvostav, Crescendo, Vishwa Tech Spectra . Basically, Vishwakarandak competition between every department which include games like badminton, cricket, kabaddi, hand ball, kho-kho, etc. and other outdoor games. While departments compete in indoor games like chess, other games such as cid and nerf mania, esports games like valo, bgmi, cod etc. Technical games like hackathonn, cad hackathon , etc. In Vishvostav we celebrate days like mismatch days, traditional days, western days. Vishwa tech spectra is similiar like vishwakarandak just there are no outdoor games and interdepartmental compition. Crescendo is the newly organized fest which include, intra college competitions and studnents from other colleges can also participate. Various traditional competitions like natki, dance competitions. Like any student with any interest and hobbies can participate int he games. Their are games for everyone . All the things are organized by clubs mainly epec. Epec is biggest commitee in Vit. Which organize every events in vit. Ther e are otehr clubs such as Veloce racing , griffin, endurance racing which compete in sae competitioins. There are around 60-70 clubs in vit. Club for everything , maths, gaming, speaking, even yoga, coding , mlsc, gsoc for tech enthusiasts, and varius clubs

Admission

I had applied for COEP technological University, PCCOE Pimpri, and VJTI. I got confirmed addmissions in PCCOE for mechanical course , COEP for metallurgy and VJTI for textile industry. At the last, I took addmission in VIT mechanical. VIT, Pune has good nirf rankings and rather than opting for branches like metallurgy and textile industry I choose mechanical. And between pccoe and vit I choose Vit. Vit accepts admission through cet and jee mains. Also dor dsy students it accpets through cet exam. Cutoff changes every year has been increasing as number of participants has increased. Overall, after the allotment of the college it took 3 hours to take addmission. It could be less if you have alll required documents and fees has been already paid using mean like dd.

Faculty

3

Speaking about my course i.e mechanical, the overall faculty to student ratio is good. Speaking abuot the best faculties then there are many professor namely Prof.Ganesh Dongre, Prof.Umesh Chavan, Prof.Nitin Borse. They are very good in nature , they frequently guide students about careers, placements and other extracurricular avtivies. They are guide studnets about latest trends in department and overall are ready to help. Also there are many faculties who are either completeing their phd or have completed their phds and are very arrogant and not at all helping the students instead they are just looking for their own good like forcing students to write their names in reseacch papers and thus helping them in their phd and various things. Some dont care about studnets and not actively participate in academics and dont enocourage students or hardly guide the students. Mostly senior faculties cnacle their lecture and hardly interact with students. On the other hand there are facluties like Prof. Sachin Komble who schedule industry visits and often help students in industry projects and other course projects.

Interview Experience

4

I have given interview and aptidtude tests. The main topics for group discussion were iot in warfare, role of iot in india's development, and rotatry compressor uses and applications , advantages of e20 fuel over petrol. Also in aptitude test, mainly questions were from machine design , thermodynamics and fluid mechanics and mechatrnics. Also during intereview our past projects , languages we learned , bascis questions from core mechanical subjects and questions related software like autocad, solidworks , etc. were asked. Mainly prepared for these round from books like v.b bhandari, p.k.rathore. Properly revised my subjects and projects watched one shot lectures from youtube etc. For addmission basically they consider it from jee mains and cet only. OTher criteria include sif your relative is a nri. You could apply thourgh nri quota etc.

Night Life

2

Vit has a hostel but no one prefers to live there as it is very far from college and also in very unpleasant area. Everybody resides near college in bibwewadi and mainly indira nagar and sukhsagar nagar. Vit has its own gym, 4-5 cafeterias like fruit canteen , college canteen , staff canteen , kiosk cafe , nescafe. Famous handout places inside are mainly cafeterias, outside college you can hangout at khau galli where most of studnets eat. Vit had no specific mess. Also the malls and every other places to have fun are far off from vit/. Thier is pict khau galli whcih is about 3 kmm form vit which is a good hangout place for students.

Placement Experience:

For 5th semester students become eligible for internship (stipend based)...And from 7th semester for placements. TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Capgemini, Wipro, Tech Mahindra – for software roles Larsen & Toubro, Honeywell, Siemens, KPIT, Bosch, Persistent Systems – for core engineering roles (ENTC, Mechanical, IT) Other startups & IT product companies also visit for internships and full-time offers. Highest Package: Around ?24–28 LPA (mainly for CSE/IT students in product-based companies like Goldman Sachs, Amazon, TCS iON, etc.) Average Package: Around ?4.5–6 LPA for core and IT companies, and ?3.5–5 LPA for ENTC students. Each year, over 90% of CSE/IT/ENTC students get placed. Branch-specific placements may vary: CSE usually sees 95–98% placements, ENTC around 85–90%, and other branches slightly lower. I'm planning for higher degree (mtech)

Placement Experience:

The college has a dedicated Training and Placement(T&P) cell and has regular recruitment drives that work to place students in companies where they will be values highly. Each year, 600-700 students are placed from all the branches. More than 300+ companies visit but the ones that hire are limited such as TCS, Capgemini, Infosys, Tech Mahindra which generally are mass recruiters that look for employees that will work for 3LPA or 4.5LPA. The highest packages go to about 30 to 40 LPA domestic and 61 LPA foreign but it is very rare to get a placement like this and requries considerable effort on the side of the student as well. Average package is 7 LPA for CS/IT branch; 5 LPA for electronics and telecommunications branch; 4 LPA for mechanical. My plan after getting the degree is working for 1-2 years while simultaneously pursuing masters.
