What Students Say
Likes
- Even though ours is a three tier college, we still have placements of note from our college.
- Merit is quite high as cut-offs go upto 86% for B.Com (Hons).
- Studies are top notch here as our syllabus is of Calcutta University.
Dislikes
- Campus as one gate and one building is all we have in the name of the campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
At Calcutta University unlike the Delhi University, we don't have the option of finishing it in 3 years. Our Hons program is of four years and we have to cover all four year programme. All aspects of accounting be it GST or Cost Accounting, everything is covered in our syllabus.
Internships Opportunities
Deloitte, First Source Limited, ITC and some others were the ones which offered internships. This year summer internships i did at FSL and was paid 10k as stipend and had to work just like the regular employees.
Placement Experience
Infosys, EY, Deloitte and PWC to name a few as accounts jobs are there in any industry. ITC and HUL as well came for placements and on and average B.Com (Hons) students are offered jobs worth 30-40,000 a year.
Fees and Financial Aid
Umesh Chandra College can't get any better as it is governed by state government and therefore the fees is just 6000 a year. SC/ST students also get 50% scholarships and therefore they have to pay just 3000 yearly.
Campus Life
We do have events and nothing as such called annual fest or anything. Our campus is small as just a three building with admin department on the ground floor and classes on 1st and 2nd floor. Canteen is there and a small parking area as well.
Admission
Yes ST, Xaviers was the dream college but the cut-off there was 95% and I had 86. So, yes i faced rejection there but got the second best as private options were very expensive and therefore I chose a government college in Umesh Chandra College.
Faculty
B.Com (Hons) of Calcutta University is same or rather second to DU.our course covers all aspects of Hons and also due to strong faculties even a tough course like ours looks like nuts. So, I am grateful for our faculties as they have been the riding force of our college.
Night Life
Kolkata's very own College Street is where our college is located and therefore Kolkata's iconic Indian Coffee House is nearby. Picnic spot Eco Park is also nearby our college campus. Some street food corners which sells Jhaal Moodi, Poochka and Dosas are also there close to our campus.
