Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum are very helpful in cracking and preparing for competitive exams after the completion of graduation. Preparations for exams like JAM, GATE are done in classes only. This is one of the main reasons students choose to study here. The teaching methods are very friendly, and sir helps us individually in our problems that we face. Problem solving skills are improved by the couse contents and they help us a lot.

Internships Opportunities

3

I have recently opted for an internship at IIT, Kharagpur. Internships are very easily available here since the department faculty themselves arragange for our internships and we don't have to look for our own. MAinly we concentrate on theoritical works in our internships, and practical exposures are actually quite low. This is a major drawback, since the department focuses on theoritical building, and not great practical exposure.

Placement Experience

4

Placements and job oppurtinities are less since this is an undergraduate college offwering honours degree. Though there is a placement and career councelling cell that looks over this matter. Placements are offered only in a few subjects, such as industrial chemisrty and computer science. The rate of placements are very high and come with high packages. Though I am not interested in placements, but I have started taking preparations for compititive exams. Such preparations are very supported here, rather than jobs and placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees structure obviously depends on the Subject you choose, but speaking for my subject, it is low, compared to other colleges. Yearly, I pay a tution fee of Rs. 18000, including the lab fees and the admission fees is same for all, which is Rs. 3500. Tution fees goes upto 24000 per year, starting from 18000. So the total course fees comes under Rs. 96000. Students under authentic caste catagories enjoy concession. Scholarships are available such as Swami Vivekananda Scholarship, offering upto Rs. 18000 per year. Since I don't qualify the financial requirements, so i don't enjoy scholarship.

Campus Life

4

Life at campus is very peaceful. Here you'll find peace in your mind and the campus feels like a home. There are dedicated study hours and play hours which makes life so much smoother and easy. Moreover, the strict routine builds discipline and integrity. Since this is a residential college, we stay at hostels. Library here is very technologically advanced and super organised. We have a smart library card for it. The college classromms are kept open for students to study in their study hours.

Hostel Facilities

3

This is a residential college, so we have to stay at our hostels. Hostels are provided with no extra elegibility tests and every student must stay at hostels. The hostel accomodations are moderate, but cozy. The mess is also so so. The menu includes daily fish and egg, wit occasional chicken curry, provided on Sundays. The afternoon tiffin is though made delicious sometimes. The room conditions are a little congested as you have to stay with around 4 to 7 people in a room.

Admission

The primary reason for shoosing this college is for its quiet and study friendly enviorenment that it offers. Set awaay from the chaotic city and having river ganges at it's side, the ambience is very peaceful and supportive. Other major pros include that there is no scene of ragging or bad behaviours of seniros. They are very friendly and cooperative. There is an anti ragging cell ensuring that such crimes are not commited in the premises. Strict discipline is maintained in the college premises and students sheldom break rules. This makes working and studying much more synchronised and effective here. Talking about admissions, there are admission testa taken for each subject, and an interveiw department wise are taken. The cutoff reaches very low around 7 marks in 50 marks test. The syllabus for each subject is the respective syllabuses upto class 11 and 12 level. I didnot apply in any other colleges.

Faculty

5

Physics had always been my love, and I always wanted to study theoritical physics. The faculty members are very well qualified here. Some of them are very famous in their respective fields. The semester exams are arranged two times a year generally with a gap of 5 to 6 months between them. The teaching methods are very efficient and student friendly. There are class assesments arranged after the completion of every module helping in our preparation. The semester exams are moderatly tough.

Night Life

2

The gymnasium is though a bit below average, but we have a large. playground outside the campus, there you can do excercises whenever you want. The are very less cafeterias and eaterias close to our campus. A very beautiful hangout place is just veside the hostel- The Belur Math. A walk beside the river ganges also offers a beautiful dopamine detox.

Other Applied Colleges

Jadavpur University - [JU] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Physics)

Classes in the college are not regular and the political situations affect the classes and routines very much. The campus is also very unhealthy and ragging takes place frequently

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
