Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is challenging enough that you need to work a little hard but it's really upto date. It is on par with a lot of foreign universities. The course really prepares you for placement interviews and the jobs you will do after college as it gives a lot of practical knowledge on things and it's workings. The teachers even though are experienced and undeniable knowledgeable in their respective fields, they are old fashioned in their attitude and teaching style. Each semester consist of 4 modules for each subjects and each internals will test 2 modules. Which comes in around 2 months between both internals and final semester exam happens after a small break after 2nd internals. They are easy enough that with a little bit of effort put in you can pass. You can't just pass without studying.

Internships Opportunities

4

Internship opportunities at CUSAT are quite diverse, with students securing positions in top companies and research institutes. Many departments have tie-ups with organizations like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Bosch, ISRO, DRDO, Cochin Shipyard, and BPCL, offering roles in software development, data analytics, mechanical design, and research-based projects. Stipends vary, with tech companies offering ?10,000–?30,000 per month, while research internships at ISRO or DRDO might be unpaid but highly valuable for experience. Projects range from AI-based applications, IoT implementations, and blockchain research to marine technology innovations, structural analysis, and chemical process optimization. For example, computer science students have worked on AI-driven chatbots and cybersecurity frameworks, while mechanical engineering interns have contributed to designing UAVs and energy-efficient systems. Some students also intern at startups through alumni connections, gaining hands-on experience in app development, marketing analytics, and product design. Many companies prefer hiring interns from CUSAT due to the strong technical foundation provided by the university. Additionally, the Placement Cell actively helps students find opportunities by organizing internship fairs and industry collaborations. Overall, internships play a crucial role in bridging the gap between academics and real-world applications, significantly boosting career prospects.

Placement Experience

4

The whole of semester 7 and 8 will be placement drive where you will be trained for getting placement. Companies like Amazon,BMW, google, Microsoft all come for placements and in cs almost 80% of students get placed. The highest package was 25lpa for a guy few years back and average placement is like 6-8 lpa. I'm planning to go for campus placement and start working after degree

Fees and Financial Aid

The year wise fees is approx 100000,50k per semester that is for all India merit and for state m merit, it is approx 60k per year. Initial registration fee for the exam as an sc candidate was 250 other fees like exam fees and pta fees are also there, but e grantz will cover all that for sc students. For general category, total exam fees and pta fees comes upto around 8k. Most common scholarship available for students is egrantz for students from Kerala which vary according to category and marks for the CAT entrance exam.

Campus Life

4

Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) offers a dynamic campus life with cultural events, technical fests, academic resources, and extracurricular activities that enhance the student experience. One of the biggest cultural events is Sargam, a five-day festival celebrating music, dance, drama, and other art forms. Held in the winter semester, it fosters camaraderie and cultural exchange among students. On the technical side, Dhishna, organized by the School of Engineering, includes competitions, paper presentations, robotics events, quizzes, and exhibitions, allowing students to showcase their technical skills. Innpasco, hosted by the Department of Computer Applications, focuses on coding competitions, web design, hardware assembly, and logic hunts, along with cultural events like dance and photography contests. CUSAT’s library is a valuable academic resource, offering an extensive collection of books, journals, and research materials, including special collections like doctoral theses, patents, and UN records. This makes it a vital hub for both students and researchers. The university also provides modern classroom facilities with well-equipped laboratories, ensuring students have access to contemporary tools for effective learning. Beyond academics, sports and extracurricular activities are a major part of student life. The Physical Education Department organizes various sports events, with facilities like a sports arena and a campus park for recreation. The Miyawaki forest on campus is an eco-friendly initiative that adds greenery and provides a serene space for students. CUSAT is also home to student-run clubs and organizations such as IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and IGBC (Indian Green Building Council), which host seminars, workshops, and competitions. These clubs help students develop professional skills and connect with industry experts.

Hostel Facilities

3

Hostel life at CUSAT is simple and affordable, offering basic but functional accommodations. Rooms are available in single, double, and triple-sharing formats, each equipped with a bed, study table, chair, cupboard, and fan. Common facilities include shared bathrooms with hot water, WiFi (though speeds vary), study halls, and recreation areas with indoor games. The mess food is decent, primarily serving South Indian meals with occasional North Indian options. Breakfast typically includes dosa, idli, or poori, while lunch and dinner feature rice, sambar, curries, and occasional non-veg dishes, with a special meal like biryani once a week. While some students find the food repetitive, canteens and nearby eateries offer alternatives. Hostel registration is straightforward, with an online application during admission. First-year students and those from distant locations get priority, and hostel fees range from ?8,000–?15,000 per semester, plus a refundable deposit. For those preferring more independence, renting a PG or apartment in Kalamassery, Edappally, or HMT Colony is a common alternative. PGs typically cost ?3,500–?7,000 per month, including WiFi, laundry, and meals, while apartments are pricier. These areas are safe and well-connected by public transport, with plenty of food joints and convenience stores. Overall, hostels offer an affordable, community-driven experience, while off-campus accommodation provides more freedom, catering to different student preferences.

Admission

I applied to ktu colleges such as cet, gcet, and private colleges such as mbcet. But my main reason for selecting this college is because it is a university. Therefore I will get more exposure and meet more people and network with them. I got rejected from cet and gcet because I didn't have enough KEAM score to make it. To get into CUSAT, you need to write CUSAT CAT entrance exam and for btech of your want to get into any branch at all min 12k rank is required and for getting computer science, approx 2k rank is required for general category.

Faculty

3

There are a lot of faculties but not enough permanent faculties as lot of them are temporary guest lecturers. Most of them are really approachable and friendly but then there are some that will make you hate the whole subject they're teaching. Damodaran sir is the best professor I have right now. He is friendly and is nice to everyone and is a good teacher. I can't name teachers that I hate since they might see this but there are some that I really hate and you will immediately know who they are from the moment you sit in their class. There are 2 internals and one final exam per semester where internals are relatively easy and semester exams being a bit more hard. As long as you work atleast a little hard, you will do fine. The course curriculum is I feel really upto date and advanced. It is definitely better than the whole ktu curriculum.

Interview Experience

5

There was MCQ type computer based test for admission called CAT exam.the syllabus for the exam is similar to JEE exam but a little bit easier.and to score top marks you have to be fast as there are a lot of questions.i prepared for these as I have along with my JEE coaching

Night Life

5

Nightlife at CUSAT isn’t about clubs or crazy parties, but it has its own charm. After classes, students usually hang out at the university canteen, coffee shops, or the open-air theater (OAT) to relax. The library stays open till 8:30 PM, so a lot of students use that time for studies. Most cafeterias close by 8:00 PM, but some near the hostels serve food till 10:00 PM. The gym and sports facilities shut down around 8:00 PM, so if you want a late workout, you’ll need to hit private gyms outside. The campus itself closes by 10:30 PM, and hostel curfews are 10:30 PM for boys and 9:30 PM for girls (though extensions are possible for academic reasons). For chilling outside campus, students often head to Azeezia Café for chai, Cyber Nest for gaming, or grab dinner at places like Paragon in Kalamassery. If you’re up for a drive, Marine Drive is a favorite late-night spot with its breezy waterfront and city lights. Lulu Mall is another popular place for movies and food. The area around CUSA

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the EEE course curriculum around 8-8.5 /10 in terms of relevance. The curriculum provides strong fundamentals in core electrical engineering subjects and prepares students well for core jobs and higher studies. The course curriculum was revised in 2023, and our batch is the 1st batch under the new curriculum. however, there are still limited coding ,AI and data science subjects in EEE ,which could be improved. Exams are conducted times per semester and are generally moderately difficult.

Placement Experience:

The placements here are quite good, but not great. Because only 50% of students in a class are getting placed. From S7 onwards the placements have been started for our department. But for other departments, from S8 only companies have arrived. For CSE department, many companies are coming which include Cognizant, SOTI, Mitsogo, EY, 6D Technologies, etc. Our senior batch students have placed at many companies in this. But comparing with other senior batches, the placements at our batch is really bad.
