World-Class Research in Real-Time Applications

Institute management is up to mark. All the files and documents are processed in a reasonably good amount of time. The Institute emphasizes research on topics that can be described as 'India driven', a tradition already established by the DAE institutions

I studied M. Tech in Electrical Engineering. When I applied through the DGFS-PhD Notification, I was among the 100 people short listed for the written test. After clearing the test, I have gone through the phase of oral interview. When I was finally selected, I chose to join as PhD opportunities in real time research areas are very rare, at least in India.

There is a course work for one year. It covers basic subjects in nuclear engineering, viz. , Nuclear reactor physics, Nuclear Reactor Engineering, Nuclear Instrumentation etc. ,

Stipend is very generous. HBNI offers higher stipend than many other institutes. Stipend for DGFS- Research Scholars is 40000/-+ HRA+ Medical Benefits.

There is a chance for getting absorbed as a permanent employee in the associated research centres. There is a scheme called KSKRA for this.

There are many technical events conducted by the institute in collaboration with the associated research centres. There are over whelmingly numerous conferences, in addition to the cultural and management festivals.

It is not at all expensive. To say, there is no fee at all. They initially ask for 5000/- as the registration fee, which is refundable at the end of the studies. They don't ask any money other than this till the completion of the course.

Gender ratio: 60% (Boys) and 40% (Girls). Life here is very pleasant except for the stress involved in the research. No hostel parties. Many work shops (about 50 in a year) depending upon the stream. No intolerance at all.

Hostel facilities are good. They arranged me a 3 BHK on sharing basis (was shared among 5 people). Sharing is the only problem with this accommodation, of course. They have now built a separate hostel for the students, which is to be inaugurated. Once ina

Alumni and senior students are always friendly and sensible. They are interested to guide the junior scholars in a good path regarding their research. But the important thing to be followed is the publication ethics. It is ethical to make the fellow researchers as co-authors, when their help or role in preparing the research articles is significant. Once this is taken care of, the help is continuous and quite generous. Unfortunately, I have a fellow researcher who only gets the help and does not acknowledge. But I continue my help to him to reduce the burden on my guide.

There 4 quarters in a year. Each quarter is of 2 months duration. At the end of each quarter, they conduct exams on the subjects taught on the subjects in that quarter. The equipment in the labs is also well maintained.

The knowledge of the faculty here is excellent. They are from research & Development Centres such as Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai and NPCIL, Mumbai. They have in depth knowledge in the areas they are working in. All the doubts of the students are
