A summary of my college life

I don't have any issue in the overall curriculum. I just wanted to have a bcom degree and thus I chose this course. The curriculum prepares us for interacting with people, gives us knowledge and training as of how to work in an environment and also prepares us for other career development courses or other competitive courses. The course needs to improve more in the practical training aspect and teachers need to teach in a manner that will benefit the students in both practical and theoretical field. The timing of exams is either in the morning or in the afternoon. The frequency is okay according to me in perspective on their difficulty level.

I paid around 2 lakhs in the last 2 years. The tuition fees that i paid is 5000 to 6000, caution fees they don't take, registration fees 1500, admission fees around 10000, development fees 5000, lab fees 1000 and other compulsory charges if we sum up then it is upto 24000. My batchmates and I, pay the same fees.. There is no relief for the students of lower category. No scholarship or financial aid is available or provided to the students of the college.

The college organises freshman party every year for the newcomers in the month of August or September. Then college week in the month of february or march and a cultural night along that. Other than these events, there are also certain events that the college organises in accordance to the prevailing situations. I don't have much idea about the range and accessibility of books and journals available in the college library as I visit the library rarely. The college has provided fans, tubelight and aur conditioner in every classroom. So that the students feel comfortable to study in the summer days. The college offers cricket, badminton, football and basketball in the college. The college also provided gym for the students so that they remain healthy and fit. No student run social groups, clubs, or student portals. We just have students union in our college and they are only responsible for any happening in the college.

I applied to KC das commerce college and dispur college other than gauhati commerce college. I got a confirmed admission from both the colleges. But I chose gauhati commerce college as it is the oldest in comparison to other two. Also it has a reputation for being the first commerce college in the entire guwahati. I didn't get any rejection from other colleges that I applied to. It just that I always wanted to study in gauhati commerce college for the above mentioned reasons. The student must pass 10th exam to get admitted in hs level and for graduation level the students must complete 12th. No further exams are accepted for the course. The cutoffs for the course is 70% and above. If students score more than 70%, he is eligible to get admission in the college. A merit list is being released after receiving the admission forms and according to that the students need to go to the college for the further admission process along with their exam marksheet and other details.

The faculty to student relationship is average. Some teachers are approachable while some are rude to an extreme extent. There are a few faculties that I like but unfortunately I don't know their name properly. But I like them because they are approachable, sincere and maintain a good relationship to the students. I don't know the names of the faculties i don't like because everybody calls them by their surnames.. So it's quite difficult to find out the names directly. But I don't like them because they are not at all approachable and are very rude to students. We fear to ask them questions if we don't understand something. In a year four exams are conducted by them. And they are not that difficult to crack and too easy to excel. But one thing is that students don't fail in the exams.

I hang out mostly in the college canteen and in the college field. Other than these places, we have a soda drink store in front of our college so I sometimes hang out there with my friends. The campus timing is from 9 am to 5 pm. The most famous hangout places in the college is the college canteen, college field and we have a place outside our college known as Laal chana bhandar. Most of the students in the college go there to hangout. And the locality is not safe to roam around at night time.
