Course Curriculum Overview

4

I cleared my CA Intermediate along with B.com(H) as I wanted to pursue a career in finance these subjects were similar to CA Intermediate which helped me do it. Various courses requires an undergraduate degree so it is mandatory. Sem 4 and Sem 5 were most difficult according to me as many students got Supplementary exams

Fees and Financial Aid

I did my B.com(H) from this college, the fees is quite low as it is being run by Government of West Bengal. For 1st Year-1200 2nd Year -1300 3rd year-1500 It may increase under the new education policy but not at a marginal rate. Your course may get completed in less than 10k It includes the examination fees of Calcutta University. But still if anyone wants to avail scholarship then there is the SVMCM scholarship u may avail or the national scholarship as per need based.

Campus Life

5

There is a Students Union in the college which manages all the events fests and everything The college mates are good Recently a new college canteen has also got opened for students by NESCAFE. The classroom have projectors and smartclass but it is not used. The annual fest of goenka is the QUEST and inter college fest which includes management cultural and other events. For Sports there is carrom Table Tennis only and some space for Badminton as well There is an Air conditioned reading room cum library where students can study.

Admission

Goenka college of commerce and business administration is the second best college in Kolkata and the best college under Calcutta University. Hence it has a brand value. I got admission offers in SXUK, Jaipuria THK Jain and Bhawanipur college, But this was the best option I had. The admission process is through your boards marks. The cutoff is around 96 in the 1st list then it drops till 90 lowest and reservation for OBC around 85 and SC ST 80

Faculty

3

After the launch of new education policy, The bcom(h) is now of 4 years which includes research of 1 year It can be a major drawback as you need to study a year more and may question the opportunity cost. The faculties to students ratio is 10:600 I liked Subohjit Daun sir, deepashree chatterjee ma'am, mrityunjay ray sir as they had great knowledge about the subject. So now there are 8 semesters so 8 exams and 8 internal assessment exams as well,At my time there were a good amount of students like in Sem 3 around 30% failed in my batch.

Interview Experience

5

No there were no GDs, the admission is on cut off of boards marks only.We had to online apply with no admission form charges. It was done very smoothly.Fill all the details and everything thats it.Then admission schedule is released by them.

Night Life

5

Gym is there only for Day students, The cafeteria is famous for maggi and there is mio amore which is very famous. My college timings were 11AM-3.45PM. The White Hall where CV Raman gave speech is a spot to hangout. The area is somehow safe I didn't hear an incident for the same.

Well among the curriculum of Bcom my most favourite is the management and Economics part. Cause I really love them and the teachers of that subject are really good . The improvement that I would want is the professors to come to the classes and teach us and finish the syllabus on time.

It is a 4 year programme which offers placements. But if someone doesn't get direct placement they are still skilled enough to get a job off campus and it can go from 6 LPA to 12 LPA. If the performance is very poor they can't go to the 4th year.

Like the highest package is about 50000 rupees and the lowest is 15000 rupees. Only few studets get chance in this companies. Like 5-10% students. I want to be a bank manager so i just keep my study moving on.
