Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum covers important law subjects which includes acts and codes which a law student must study in law school. Since law alongwith theoratical knowledge is more inclined in practical exposure. One may find practical challanges in law easy if their theory is clear enough. I feel overall curriculum is good enough for law students and the law school board keeps working on making it better. Exam difficulty level is moderate to tough.

Internships Opportunities

5

Mostly law internships are unpaid however few firms do give stipends to law students as compensation for travel allowences. Few firms and advocates are linked with college to provide internship opportunities to the college. Main tasks given as a law intern is legal research, legal drafting, trackong court rooms, tracking their matters, assisting their senior in cases, etc.

Placement Experience

5

Placements are good. A lot of law firms and company coke to campus for placement drive. Maximum percentage of students got the placement. Highest package was 7 LPA. After degree one can go for master degree or law practice or corporate job.

Fees and Financial Aid

Total course fee is approx 7 lacs with Rs 60,000 per sem till 6th semester and Rs 72,000 from 7th semester. Fee is increasing with upcoming batches. Scholarship is given one may consult the office for further reference.

Campus Life

5

Campus life is good to excellent depends upon everyone personal experience. Several clubs are present at college in different areas. Several social activities are run by college and committes. All these have a huge impact on social life of a college student. One can enjoy college life a lot through taking parts in this event.

Admission

Admission process is simple at St. Xavier's University for Xavier's Law School. One has to apply there through admission form available on college website and then there is an admission exam called XAVIERS LAW ADMISSION TEST ( XLAT) if cleared one can take the admission there

Faculty

5

Faculty are very friendly their teaching way is also very good. They use notes, PPTs, smartboard, whiteboard and they also share notes as and when required. Every faculty shares the lesson plan at the very beggining of the semester and they even suggest books from library and what others we cab purchase if one wants to. There is two examinations per semester one internals of 30 marks which gets converted to 10 marks and other is external of 80 marks and 5 marks is for other component and 5 marks on attendance. Overall 80+10+5+5 = 100 marks per subject.

Night Life

4

There are several games available in games rooms including Table tennis, chess, carrom, etc. Gym is well equipped with equipments. Library is in a seperare building and there is common and a seperate library available for law students as law library. There is different cafeterias for both staff and students. Both veg and non veg options are available at cafeteria. A students cannot enter college after 6 pm except hostelers

My college has a 98% placement rate. As I'm in 2nd year, I haven't been placed yet, but as I look at my seniors, they are definitely well placed. The average package ranges from 3.5LPA - 3.8LPA. The highest package was 36LPA reported in 2024-2025.

Placement Experience:

Number of students who have been placed is far less than what it should be ideally. Kolkata is a paradise for law practice as it is the largest city of India and lawyers have always been in demand here. Still only 30% of the students are placed here and that's a big issue considering the name of our college.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The main thing that I love about the curriculum is that we need to study in depth. Our syllabus contains most basic to really professional level stuff which really help us prepare for real life experiences and further academic pursuits. The only change i would like is more practical experiences that would be helpful.

I was fond of international reletaions in my +2 days, thats why I choose Political Science as my honours subject over History. Hence. later I found very boring and monotonous in the first year of its syllabus. After having 3 years of immense syllabus, I have finally fall in love with subject in the final as my beloved IR(International Relations) subjects finally came into my life. There was yearly only one exam contains 2 parts accumating questions.
