MY VERDICT ON GAUHATI COMMERCE COLLEGE : Read before you decide.

The College specialises in the field of Commerce and qualified professors are alloted to each department. It helps to gain knowledge and apply in the real world. It's helps to achieve appealing results in case of pursual of further academic courses. However, the syllabus for the course can be covered efficiently if proper measure are taken . Also , although the teaching methods are okayish, it can be improved , so that students understand better . There is a need for better student-teacher communication in the classroom. Exams are taken twice per semester, namely, mid terms and end semester exams . Although the frequency of the exams are fine but the timings of exams are not so appealing for students as end sems are conducted as soon as 3 and half months of class is completed. Where in real sense it should be conducted after atleast 5 months . Mid term exams are not that difficult but the end semester exams tend to be averagely difficult.

It is pretty much affordable as per semester around ?5000 (approximately) is charged . Moreover, several reservations for Sc, St , Obc and other castes are provided. Scholarships for excellent students are also provided by the College. Under the Fee Waiver scheme launched by the Govt. Of Assam , Ews Students have the privilege to pay no or minimum fees . The registration fees for exam is same for everyone as it is charged by the university under which the college is administered.

Apart from academic courses, several extra curricular activities are conducted throughout the year . Different competitions like art, painting, singing, dancing, quiz , debate and more of the likes . Different festivals including Saraswati Puja , Independence day, and so on are celebrated. Freshers and farewell for students are also conducted for students welfare and enjoyment . Apart from these , College Week which includes different competitions and functions is conducted once every year which lasts for a week . Also , sports competitions like cricket ,badminton, football , and so on are also conducted at times.

In Guwahati, Gauhati Commerce College is one of the best colleges for Commerce. They offer several extra curricular activities apart from academic courses. It includes different competitions , festivals , freshers , farewell and many other activities enhancing student competency and welfare. I initially only applied to this college and was accepted on the first go on the basis of my result. The admission process in not so difficult and the college is supportive in that sense.

The faculty is pretty approachable. Most of the faculty teachers or members are senior citizens, they tend to be rude sometimes . Some teachers appear to be rude and are not approachable, while some are very friendly and approachable regarding any issue or enquiry. I personally prefer and liked the faculty members of the Management department and accounts department. Although , It might just be because of my subject interest . I don't have any specific dislike towards any department. Every department or faculty consists of my likes and dislikes . Regarding Exams , each semester consists of a Mid term or sessional exam of 30 marks and a final end semester exam of 80 marks . Aparts from exams , there are marks for attendance and assignments each semester. Each semester is supposed to be of 6 months but in real it happens to be maximum of 3 and half months before end sem exams are taken .

No such interview or gd tests are conducted for admission. Admission is strictly based upon merit. And merit lists are generated for selected students who are interested in taking admission in the college.

OoThe College has a gym , cafeteria and a library for the students for time pass . Also , common rooms are also provided separate for girls and boys for resting . However, I have never spent a evening of night in the college so I don't have an idea about the night life there. Boys hostel is provided for the boys and there is no girls hostel. Outside the campus , there are a lot of hangout places like Lal chana bhandar ( shop where different chaats are available) , Cafe City streaks , street foods , Gandhi Mandap , Petoo restaurant, Fat belly restaurant and many more places where students can relax and chill.
