Thriving campus life at IIT Roorkee

The course curriculum will most probably be very irrelevant from what you pursue in future unless you plan for masters or PhD. The Engineering has no doubt many practical application in day to day applications yet it is not comprehensive and most probably will not be relevant to you. The exams are conducted in 2 stages, first you have Mid-Semester exams and the you have End-Semester exams, both of which are conducted every semester. As far as difficulty is concerned, Mid Sems are Easy-Moderate depending on the professor and End Sems are tough.

More than 100 companies visit campus for internship, It is very hard to get on-campus internship if you are not from circuital (tech) branch. Your CGPA matters a lot here but does not garuntee you landing an internship. Internships at IIT are offered for various roles, from Software, Product Managment, Consulting, Finance and many more.

Students become eligible for the placement from the 4th year of college, more than 100 companies visit the collge, from which very few will be open for you if you are from any non-tech branch. The placments highly depends on you CGPA, a person with lower CGPA and high skills will most probably be unplaced. This is the one thing that no one talks about IIT Placements that people even after their degree remains unplaces if they are unable to compete inside the college.

Campus life is great at IITs, you have almost all extraurricular activities covered. It ranges from Cultural, Sports and Tech and you name anything inside these three you will get it in IIT. Not only this but you will also find people who are doing the same thing and many seniors to guide you. A typical room in IIT-R Hostel has all the basic facilities, Although they may not be well maintained because the maintanance department at IIT Sucks and the students also does not take proper care of public items. But for Information, Every student have their personal room from 2nd year onwards, which is equiped with Study table, Bed, Almirah, Tea table and a chair. Electricity is 24x7 availabe and baerly looses connection. You will have free Wi-Fi throughout the campus and nearby water cooler/filter everywhere you go. Public restrooms of hostels are not as good as you will think, but you will learn to manage it.

I choose this college puerly on the basis of its NIRF Ranking and the IIT Tag, but I will recommend students to also take into account the branch which you are choosing, it also has an equal Impact on your future and it is as important as your college.

Faculty to student ration is not a very useful thing to say, you learn most of the stuff from your peers and books. Most of the faculty will be unable to explain you the concepts although they are the best in their respective fields but they are not good teachers.

Night life at IIT Roorkee is vibrant and safe, Gyms are only open during day time, Libraries are open 24x7 and cafeterias are also open 24x7. There are no restrictions on timing for entering hostel or campus, its just you cannot enter hostel of opposite gender after 10 PM. Their are lot of hangout places inside campus like Vighyan Kunj Canteen and Green Gala.
