IIT Roorkee - The Utopian Campus

From year 2023 onwards in IIT Roorkee, NEP (new education policy) has been implemented which has changed things a lot and tried to make the curriculum more relevent, data science courses are their for everybody irrespective of the branch and project based study methods are their, their is a course like tinkering and mentoring for first-years.

campus placements are their for 5th year students, after 8th semester basically, for my branch , companies like ONGC, british oil , cairne like companies visit, last year 17 out of 30 students were placed on campus with an avg package of 17lakhs for my branch.

My fees every year as a general student amounts to 2.8 lakhs per year including hostel and mess fees, out of which 1 lakh is the tuition fees per semester, hence 2 lakh is tuition fees per year, for sc/st categories their is no tuition fees. Their are many scholarships available for students whose family income is less than 7-8lakhs , other than that , their is one reliance scholarships 40,000 per year, for students with family income less than 15 lakh.

Social life is really nice, their is a club for everything, every sports and activity from tennis to chess, from stand-up comedy to dance, literally and if their is not, you are most welcome and supported by your seniors, faculty and peers to make it. Our cultural fest is thomso typically held in october and our technical fest is cognizance typically held in early march, every year.

my hostel is kasturba bhawan, triple sharing rooms were given to two students , hence more space and better rooms, mess food is better as compared to other hostels, the staff is particularly nice, their are 2 canteens, a stationary, washing facility and parlous aswell ,inside the hostel hi.

I was getting IIT kharagpura and IIT kanpur , similar branch related to earth science only, my factors in choosing Roorkee was the location since it is closer to mountains, I get to travel a lot, then branch change is easier in roorkee as compared to other colleges, i cleared jee advance with 15000 rank.

Speaking of my own department, the faculty to student ratio is really less, 1:20 types, most faculty is pretty approachable, the professors that know you, you can go to them with non-academic issues aswell and they will try their best to help you, exams in earth sciences department are easy for people aiming to go into core, just trying to attend the most classes will get you passed easily.

Their is no curfew, it is the best thing you are 24/7 allowed to go anywhere, in and out of campus as well as hostel, their are varoious night canteens for late night cravings, VK canteen (vigyan kunj canteen) is specifically very famous and my personal best aswell.
