Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is relevant to the course for a very great extent. However, few subjects which are unnecessary are added to the curriculum and made them compulsory. For instance, subjects like 'Indian Knowledge System', 'Panchtantra', 'Me and My Surroundings', etc. are completely irrelevant but yet added to the course curriculum. The exams are held after every 3-4 months. Which considering the portion is very reasonable. The difficulty level can be rated as 4 out of 5.

Fees and Financial Aid

The KJ Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce is overall really good for the students opting to study B.Com. The fees structure for each year of this three year course is 17,000 for First Year, 17,000 for Second Year and 14,000 for Third Year. [These amounts aren't exact, however the actual fees wouldn't vary much from the amounts mentioned]. I am Fisrt Year student of B.Com and the biggest pro of choosing this college, according to me as a student would be the management of this college. They might not be the friendliest people there but, they definitely do know how to manage such a huge crowd of students. Also, the facilities are knowledgeable and ready to help if asked politely. However, for every subject more than 1 faculties have been allocated, which as a student, is really troublesome. It becomes confusing as to whom to approach regarding quires of a particular subject. For instance, we have been allocated three faculties for accounts and all of them have taken up their part of portion that they would be teaching but in first year the portion isn't that large so one topic is being taught by more than one faculty which is obviously confusing and frustrating for the students. This college's main attraction is their huge campus, grand fests and events, and versatility. Along with these, we compulsorily have to purchase a dairy provided by the college which doesn't cost much, around 50-70 rupess. This dairy is important for the CC which stands for Co-Curricular Course. The credit points that a student earns form this course affects their final CGPA. This dairy is to record the Title of Event, Date of event, No. Of hours attended, Venue of event and Details of that event. In total a student has to complete attending 30 hours of event per sem. All the students are allocated a CC Department. At the end of the sem, they have to submit their diaries to the head of this Department. This course plays a huge role in personality development of students.

Campus Life

4

My overall campus life is really great. Due the large campus the students can go for some fresh air in their breaks. Various events and activities are organised by the departments of this college it includes all kinds of things. This helps the students to maintain their academic and athletic life. For instance, during elections students were asked to make posters regarding voting awareness and go around the area on cycles to showcase those posters and promote importance of voting.

Admission

I applied to few other colleges but I choose this one because of the well appreciated faculties and facilities provided to students. This college motivates the the students to socialize, improve their personality, get ready for the outside world and exceed your impression.

Faculty

4

The student faculty ratio is really low. Large amount of students being allocated to two to three faculties. However, many faculties are helpful and approachable. The exams are difficult. Many students fail to pass them if not studied attentively during the semester. The course curriculum is related to the course for the most of the part. However, few subjects like 'Indian Knowledge System' which are completely unrelated, are compulsory.

Interview Experience

4

The various departments of college would held discussions regarding the current affairs of the society. I recently attended a discussion of and environmental expert and other related personnel like journalist, vet doctors, etc. They discussed the possibility of co-existence of wild animals and humans in future. It evocated the thoughts of students regarding the same.

Night Life

5

The somaiya university is known for it's canteens. There are seven canteens in somaiya on total. Apart from these various famous hangout spots like Maggie House, Watermelon Garden and Long Stairs near aryabhatta to sit and spend time with your friends.

At TCSC placements are quite good as anyone. Even the SOBO colleges and Mithibai don't have placements as good as us. So this is why I always dreamt of studying here because since last 6-7 years, Thakur College placements have gone better and higher.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The B.com is not a very comprehensive and complex degree to complete for someone who wants to pursue his/her career in finance. It can be referred as an initial start or push start for one's finance journey over the years. Also the relevance of B.com in real world is gradually decreasing day by day.

From semester 5, you become eligible for final placement and semester 3 for internship placement. many companies like Nykaa, Myntra, Duetsche Bank, Morgan Stanley, Deloitte, Zomato, Beerbiceps and more have visited. the highest package in history is 38 lakh per annum. The average is 8-9 lakh per annum. Around 70% of students get the college placement. My plan is to start my own business after college. I am although doing internships through college. Already done one in Beerbiceps and one in chorus call.

Remarks:

The good thing is that the college was not strict and was never forcing us to study rather it was seeing to it that it gave us proper advice and help us reach more towards my career goal. The bad part would be there were may staff which was very dull and was not kind, and no importance was given to correct their behaviour although it was evident by all.
