Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is very well designed and pays utmost attention in adding on to the skillset of the students. The curriculum prepres students very well for real world applications as well as for further academic pursuits. Exams are conducted four times in an academic year and are relevant to the course material with difficulty level ranging from moderate to easy.
Internships Opportunities
I am just a freshie so I have little knowledge over this. However there are students from both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes who have secured internships in RBI, IOCL, Pride East Entertainment Limited etc.
Placement Experience
The placement cell is yet to develop into its full potential. Students from undergraduate as well as postgraduate programmes have been placed up until now. OIL, HDFC, ICICI, as well as schools have recruited students from here. Due to less popularity of the placement cell among students, the percentage of students getting placements is still very less. After this degree, I plan on to pursue my Master's.
Fees and Financial Aid
For BSc.(Hons) Statistics I was charged Rs. 6750 at the time of admission. For the year 2024-25, the admission fee is Rs.800, tuition fee is Rs.1200, university registration fee is Rs.600, Internal exam fee is Rs. 300, library fee is Rs. 350, Establishment fee is Rs.200, ID Card fee is Rs. 100, Maintenance fee is Rs. 400, Lab fee is Rs. 800, Field study fee is Rs. 1000, Development fee is Rs. 100 and Library Security fee(Refundable) is Rs. 150. The fees increase but with a reasonable rate. Scholarships from NSP like Ishan Uday Scholarship, Nijut Moina Asoni for girls etc. are available.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty nice and appreciable. There are several clubs that the students can join, ranging from dance to drama, literature as well as cinema. Every now and then there are many competitions held too. There is equal importance given to sports and NCC as well.
Admission
I had applied to B. Barooah and Handique Girls College but Cotton was my top priority so when I got into it in the first merit list, I confirmed my admission here. I got selected by the other colleges as well. The admission process was divided into CUET and NON-CUET this year. I applied and entered via the NON-CUET process. Students who appeared for CUET can apply here as well. Otherwise Class XIIth percentages are taken into consideration, The cutoffs go quite high but students can look out for available seats later.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is very well with adequate number of faculty members for each student. Most, if not all faculty members are approachable and friendly in nature. As a student in the Statistics Department, all the faculties of the department are very helpful and knowledgable. In general there are two exams per semester, making it four exams in a year. The exams are relevant to the course material and test the knowledge of students.
Night Life
I am a day scholar. The college is situated in Old Guwahati and it has some of the most classic places to be in. There are movie halls and cafes and shopping places nearb as well. Buses are very prevelant just outside the college. Digholipukhuri and Nehru Park are some of the most iconic places of hangout.
