Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is definitely relevant to the course, it follows almost same syllabus as national institutions only difference is that we don't have jury instead we will have submit a lot of assignments digitally and we have 3 main written exam for which you have to clear. There is a lot of theory and books related to design will be given to read and questions will be asked based on it. The cat exams be will be held for 1hr and 30 mins and the fat exams will be held for 3hrs. The fat exams are basically lab exams for all the subjects and it is also the semester end exam, so it will be out of 100 marks. Apart from this there will be soft skills which is basically an extra subject which we have to take every semester as it aims on placement preparation. As for improvements, the faculties are mostly tamil speaking so, it would be a bit more diverse if they hired people from all over india as vit consists of students from all over india. And placements are still not upto mark for designing, ofcourse because it's a new department.
Placement Experience
Thr placements for bdes is not as good as btech ofcourse, which is why a lot of them prefer to apply for it individually as I said, but a good training is given for sitting on placements on our 3rd and 4th year of the course. The minimum cgpa for sitting for placements is 8.5 and as of what I know 9 lakh is the estimated package. I am planning to pursue masters after my degree and in between If I want a break I thought of gaining some work experience by working for an year so. I thought of applying for companies myself instead of sitting for the placements from university itself.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is 173000 per year and No scholarships are available fore bdes in vit as bdes started in vit on 2018 and it's fairly a new course. The registration fees for the design exam is 1,350 inr and this has to be payed online prior the vsign exam which has to be attended online. As for the admission fees, it has to be payed for 1 year on the day you will be admitted at the college. The fee will reduced if caste certificate is provided while uploading the documents prior to the admission exam. Unfortunately as of 2024 there isn't any scholarships and financial situation aid available to students.
Campus Life
The campus life is great, the people around can be friendly especially in designing the seniors are great and interactive. Vit has two main fests that thrills the whole campus which are GRAVITAS and RIVERA. Gravitas will be held towards the end of September which last for about 10 days and the whole university will be filled with stalls, games, photobooths and even workshops for different departments. It will also consist of fun events like laser tag, maze, car racing etc. And the next event is Rivera which is basically a music fest and is usually held towards the end of February. A celebrity would visit the campus and there will be concerts and fests which lasts for days. It is open for everyone to join over India and is one of the main highlights of VIT.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels rooms are amazing, I opted for 6 sharing AC room, if you have good roomates, then I can guarantee you will have a peaceful hostel life. The hostel room I stay at has a study table, 2 cupboard space and a shelf for keeping my stuff at and that is more than enough for me. It als depends on the block you opted for, i got f block as I came earlier settled in, which is why I got a room in the gorund floor itself. The hostel non veg mess is alright, some of the dishes are great while some aren't. When I got admission at Vit I wasn't able to apply online for some reason which is why I applied after reaching the campus, there are affordable options for room like Non Ac rooms which is available in A block.
Admission
I chose Vit over other college mostly because of it's high reputation over nirf rankings, infrastructure and it's fees is comparatively low compared other private institutions that offer my course. I Chose Vit over other institutions becausefirst it provided bdes industrial design which was the exact course I was looing for and second it had good infrastructure. I Also got confirmed admission from colleges like world university of design, United world institution of design, woxen university, NIFT and I also applied to some universities in the US as I did try to go abroad if I got a reasonable scholarship and I got into Penn state, Iowa state and couple others but I ended up opting for India itself as I didn't get a good scholarship and a lot of them which had good scholarship didn't have industrial design course.
Faculty
The faculties members are highly qualified from national institutions, most of them are from btech and designing background. There is used to a lack of faculties but this year a whole bunch of faculties joined. The faculties are friendly, interactive and ready to answer any of your doubts especially of material exploration. There are 3 exams one semester cat1, cat2 and fat exam and they aren't difficult and can be scored easily with peoper preparation. The syllabus for designing changed this year and it is better and more design orientated only that the theory part feels a bit like school taught, there is necessary books included in the syllabus for thr better knowledge of design and it's use in real life.
Night Life
The nightlife is okay, as girls are permitted to stay out of their hostel only until 8:30 unless permission is taken. But inside the girls hostel itself there is facilities like gym, cafeteria, library along with other sports facilities like basketball, badminton, volleyball as well. There is also convenience stores inside for stationary, snacks etc. Inside the university, the library is a great place to study and for hanging out there is this area called foodies where there is people can sit and talk, the programs are mostly held at greenos and there are two auditoriums where most of the programs are held. There are cafeterias all around the university buildings which provides breakfast, lunch at an affordable rates.
